Numbers 15:39 Signs To Help Remember

You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. Numbers 15:39

Remembering things is a challenge that most people have. Everyone has different ways of setting up things to help them remember important dates, chores, or events. Using cell phones to send reminders is a common method, but others may use post-it notes, emails or something else to be in front of them to jog their memory.

God told the Israelites to put tassels on the corners of their garments to help them remember God’s commands to obey them and not go after their own sinful desires.

Hearing sermons on Sundays brings God’s word and commands to the attention of believers. However, many people forget by Monday morning a lot of what was said in the sermon. Often it becomes just a ritual, something that they do, and is not really an active part of their daily life.

People need to have reminders put in front of them on a regular basis, or they will quickly forget things that are important. It is easy to get caught up in the here and now and put God and His word to the side.

In the same way that reminders are placed to remember important dates and events, believers should have reminders to keep their focus upon obeying God’s word.

Staying in God’s word on a regular basis is the beginning of remembering His commands. Along with that, little reminders can be put in place. These may be notes on the phone or in places that will be seen, pictures or posters of God’s commands, or whatever else will work to remind.

As a believer God has given you many different promises and commands. Do not allow yourself to just put those commands and promises to the side and forget them. Find a way that works for you to remember what God has said. It will build your faith and strengthen your walk with God.

If you choose to not remember what God has said, the world will fill your time with sin. Your mind will quickly race towards sin, when God’s commands are not the focus.

Do not allow yourself to fall back into sinful ways, but remember God’s commands to obey them.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has commanded you to do; that you will remember what God has said; and that you will chase after God and not sinful desires of a fallen heart and world.
