1 John 1:6 Where Are You Walking?

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 1 John 1:6

Crimes are usually performed in the darkness, because when it is dark, no one can really see what is occurring. Many people get scared to walk down a lonely, dark alley at night, not knowing what may be out there to get them.

This type of thinking is common for most people around the world. Yet, the majority of those same people are walking in a spiritual darkness, even in broad daylight.

John states that if a person claims to have fellowship with God, but walks in the darkness, that person is a liar.

It is very easy for a person to claim to be a believer in Jesus and go to church, but still be in the dark. Holding onto sinful habits causes one to stay in and walk in the darkness. In reality he is lying about having fellowship with God.

Throughout the church there are many who claim to have fellowship with God but are lying about it. They purposefully commit sins against God. Some live in adultery, some tell lies, some gossip, some live an alternate sinful sexual lifestyle, some idolize false gods, and the list goes on of the sins.

God is light, He is holy, He is pure, He is without sin and cannot be around any darkness or sin. Only when a person is cleansed of sin and is walking as Jesus walked can God be with him and he walks in the light.

It is living in the forgiveness and grace of Jesus, striving to be holy as God is holy that one walks in truth and in the light. True fellowship with God will cause one to flee all sin and walk in God’s light of holiness and truth.

As you walk through this life each day, you must determine if you will walk in the dark or in the light. Your acceptance or rejection of sin will determine if you are in the dark or in the light.

If you have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus, He has forgiven you of all your sin. Do not allow yourself to go back into any of those sins or any other sin.

Walk in the light of God, not the darkness of sin and this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will have true fellowship with God; that you will walk in God’s light; that God will strengthen you to leave the darkness of sin behind you; and that you will live in God’s truth.
