You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36
In order to gain some things of great value it takes perseverance, work and time. Investors say that in order to save and have a large retirement account, one must put in a little every day or week for years. In the same way, athletes must obey their coach, work hard and persevere, in order to win the coveted prize at the end of the season.
It takes a lot of patience and work to get the reward in the end.
Once the author talked about being made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus, he tells them to persevere to the end. This is so that they will receive what God promised after they had done His will.
Becoming a believer in Jesus is easy. It is just a matter of repentance and faith in what Jesus did.
Millions are willing to accept Jesus, but many are unwilling to do the next step–to do the will of God. When things get difficult or don’t make any sense, people are very quick to give up trying. Instead of having patience when things are tough to continue on the path they started, they stop.
Many people are expecting a quick and easy road to salvation. While becoming a believer and being saved is fast and easy, the completion of the salvation takes time and is often filled with pain.
God has called each and every believer to do a work while here on this earth. That work is to spread the gospel message to the dying world. For each person this may be done in a different way, but the message is the same.
The believer who has done God’s will, will in the end receive what God had promised–eternal life, those who didn’t do His will, will be condemned.
God has a mission for you to do while you are on this earth. Do not allow yourself to sit back and just relax, but persevere and work to complete the task He has set before you.
By your obedience in doing this, you are showing God that you do love and trust Him. Just as it was with Jesus, it will be very tough and long at times, but hang in there and you will be rewarded, just as Jesus was.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will strengthen your perseverance; that God will show you what He wants you to do; that God will strengthen you to do His will; and that some day you will receive the reward God has for you.
