They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. Titus 1:16
It is very easy for a person to claim that he knows someone. Two people meet and often they claim that they know each other. This is often seen when meeting someone famous.
Reality is that they really don’t know each other. Later actions will prove this to be true. The famous person will walk by the other one with zero recognition of the non-famous person.
Paul warns Timothy of some in the church teaching false doctrines. He says that they will claim to know God, but by their actions, they deny Him and become worthless for doing anything good.
Millions of people around the world claim to know God. While many do know God, many do not really know who He is. All they see is a God of love and One who will save them from hell. Living in this way, many will live purposefully in sinful and disobedient ways, refusing to change.
God is so much more than just a God of love and salvation. He is also a holy God, a just God, and a God who demands holiness. All of these things and more are wrapped up in His love, grace and mercy.
The believer who realizes who God is and really knows Him will strive to change his life to live like God wants him to live. This means that he will work to flee all sin, rather than live in sinful practices. He will work to teach God’s truth at all times, and be teachable when he is wrong. In the end, actions prove whether a person really knows God or not.
Is he living for God, by His rules, or is he living for himself and this world?
If you have chosen to believe in Jesus and follow Him, you also claim to know Him. Now take a moment to examine your life and see if you really know God or not.
All throughout the bible, God speaks on how He expects His followers to live their lives. Are your actions matching up with your words? Or are they in conflict with what you claim?
If you really know God, you will know His perfect love, grace and mercy, and then your actions will not deny Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God expects of you; that you will know God’s power to help you live for Him; and that your actions will not deny God.
