1 Corinthians 12:21 All Are Needed

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 1 Corinthians 12:21

Organizations that run well have a good understanding the of the need of everyone in the organization. Other organizations often splinter and crumble, because of the disunity inside of it caused by everyone working alone.

Some people love to work alone and feel as if they do not need the help of anyone else. The need for others is often unseen, until it is too late and damage has been done.

Using the body as an example, Paul describes what the church is like. He points out that the eye cannot make it without the hand, nor can the head make it without the feet.

Pride in the heart of many people causes them to feel as if they do not need anyone else. Each person feels as if he is the most important and needed person within a group and often looks down upon or excludes others.

Sadly this type of viewing has occurred inside the church many times. Pastors look down upon youth or children’s pastors. Youth pastors look down upon the usher. Ushers may look down upon the person who cleans the church. Along side of those views, teachers may look down upon evangelists or the opposite way.

God does not work in that way at all. Every person that He has put in a church has an important job to fulfill. Just as the eye needs the hand in order to have any value, so every person is needed inside the church body. None are more important than the other. Each person has his own job to fulfill before God and others.

Together the church can be a powerful force and witness in this world.

Regardless of your position in the church you are a part of, you have an important role to fulfill. However, keep in mind that your role is not the most important, but also not the least important.

Realize that God has others there to help you and for you to help.

Every person, including you, is placed in the church body by God to build each other up in the Lord and be His powerful witness to this fallen world. Do not neglect your role, nor look down upon the roles of others, but build each other up in unity.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the purpose God has for you in His body–the church; that you will build others up in the Lord in the church body; that you will work in unity with other believers doing God’s work; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to the world.
