The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12
Without a vision or hope for the future, people only see today. They struggle with seeing that there is a new day coming, in which things will be different.
With not being able to see tomorrow, many want to live life up today. They want to eat, drink and be merry today, because there is no tomorrow. Enjoying life in the moment with no cares for the next day is the common thought for many.
Paul says that the night is nearly over and day is coming. With that in mind, people are to put off the things of darkness and put on the clothing of light.
As believers look around them, often all they see is extreme darkness and sin. Communities around them are promoting sin and sinful activities more and more. The world appears to be black as ever, with no hope of the light of a new day.
Going through a physical night, it is always the darkest right before the sun arises on the horizon. During this time of darkness, day may feel like it will never come, but it will and does.
Although the world appears to be as dark as ever, believers have the hope of a new day, a new life coming. It is only a short matter of time before Jesus returns and a new day has begun.
Knowing this, believers are to put off the sinful deeds of darkness and sin. As the world steps deeper into sin, the believer should be leaving behind the life of sin. He is to put on God’s armor of light and live a holy and righteous life before God and man. This keeps him ready for the new day that is coming.
God has called you out of a life of darkness of sin and death into His life of light and righteousness. Though you live in a dark and sinful world, you are to be separate with the hope that is in you.
Do not give up living a righteous life before God, because the new day is coming when sin and suffering will be done away with. Hold on to the hope that God has placed in you, knowing you will win with God in the end.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will see the day of Jesus’ return coming; that you will turn to God away from sin; and that you will put on God’s armor of light.
