I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
No matter who the person is or where he is from, one thing that is common among all people is having trouble in this life. The types of challenges that people face may be different, depending upon many different circumstances, but trouble is always there.
Since people have troubles, most people do not have much peace. They live with great fear or anxiety. Billions are spent every year on medicine to help calm people’s nerves.
Jesus had just finished telling the disciples that they would be persecuted. He then tells them that not only will they have trouble in this world, but they can have His peace, because He has overcome the world.
Some people have taught that when a person becomes a believer, that all of his troubles will go away. Some believe that is a true thing to expect.
Jesus was a perfect man, with perfect faith, and yet He still had lots of trouble in this world. However, despite all the troubles, He also had perfect peace, because He knew the Father was in control.
Every day a believer will have some trouble in his life. He may be actually persecuted, or it may be just the struggles and problems of this life, needing food, clothing, paying bills, things breaking down or more.
Rather than fearing the trouble, the believer can trust in God to bring him through it or to provide for his needs at the right time. He can also know that all these troubles are only for a short time, regardless of how long he lives on this earth. He can have peace, knowing that some day he will live with no troubles in heaven for eternity.
You have troubles that hit you every day. Some are major, some are minor, but all are troubles that you do not want.
Rather than fretting and worrying over those troubles, put your trust in God. Jesus overcame death, the greatest trouble to man, He can overcome your troubles.
Hold on to the peace that He offers you and be of great cheer that He has already overcome the world. In Christ Jesus you are a victor and will have the victory in the end.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the peace Jesus offers you; that you will trust God in every situation in your life; that you will see God’s victory in your life; and that you will have joy in knowing God is in control.
