Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into dispute. 2 Peter 2:2
In nearly every subject that one can think of, there are many different teachers with differing views on each subject. Each teacher teaches from his own personal viewpoint on the subject. Unless it is a very concrete subject, there are often opposite teachings.
As students are being taught this way, they will often follow that way of belief. In the process of learning there will often come lots of confusion as to what is the actual truth in the matter.
Peter talks about false teachers among them. He says that many will choose to follow the depraved conduct of the false teachers causing confusion.
Just as there are differing teachings in the world, there are also differing teachings within the church. People who do not really serve God are allowed into the church to teach. They begin to teach the principles of the world, rather than those of God, slightly twisting God’s word to say what they want it to say.
Many people in the church have chosen to follow these false teachers. Acceptance of sin and sinful acts are accepted by ‘believers’ as good and acceptable to God.
Others look at this and see confusion. They do not know what to believe with opposing views being taught. The world then ridicules Christianity as being false, because of the opposing teachings.
Every believer must learn to seek out and study God’s word personally. He must know what God is saying, rather than just taking someone else’s word for it. Anything taught by someone must be lined up with all of God’s word to see if it is true or not.
False teachers and false teachings must be rejected and cast out. God is a God of unity, not division and confusion.
You will hear many people speak and teach many things from the Bible. Instead of just taking it blindly as God’s word, study it out for yourself and see if it fully lines up with all of God’s word. Do not fall for their false teachings.
If you are a teacher, you must also take time to make sure that what you are teaching is God’s full word and not a twisted version of His word.
Do not allow yourself to fall into sinful practices as though it was God’s word.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s word in your life; that God will reveal false teachings around you; that God will reveal His truth through His word; and that God will keep you from being confused as to what is truth.
