Hebrews 2:18 Help Is Available

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18

Many people who are struggling with something are also often looking for help to overcome the struggle. They want to be able to get past whatever the problem is and is willing to seek help.

There are thousands of different self-help books on nearly anything and everything that a person may want help in. Yet, many will also refuse to look for the help that is available to them. They want to do it completely on their own, even though they are failing at it.

After pointing out who Jesus is, the writer points out that Jesus also suffered every time He was tempted. Since He suffered under temptation, He is able to help anyone suffering under temptation.

While the world really does not care about temptation to sin, the believer recognizes it and tries to overcome the temptations. Many believers fall to the temptation, because they are unwilling to seek help or to take the escape plan that is available to them.

Pride tells a believer that he can do it on his own, but God’s word says that everyone needs help. Jesus had undergone some of the greatest temptations that any person could possibly go through, yet, He did not fall to the temptation and sin. He had to suffer in the body and mind in the process of overcoming the temptations.

Since Jesus had overcome temptation, He is able and willing to help everyone who is also struggling with temptation. Jesus used God’s word to overcome the temptations in His life and the believer can use it also.

When the believer looks at the life of Jesus and sees that it is possible to overcome temptation, it can give him hope and strength to do it himself.

As with every person, you also have temptations that come your way trying to get you to sin against God. Turn your focus upon God and His word and seek His Holy Spirit to guide you in the path away from the temptation. Do not allow yourself to succumb to the temptation, but overcome it, just as Jesus did.

Jesus had perfect victory and is willing to show you the way to have that same victory over temptations.

Are you willing to overcome the temptations? Or you are just going to give into the temptations?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will turn to God’s word for guidance; that you will accept help from Jesus to overcome temptations; that you will reject all temptations to sin against God; and that you will live as Jesus lived.
