and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19
For a person to really understand and know a person, one must have knowledge about that person. One can get to know a person in how he thinks, acts and responds to different situations. The more of these things a person knows, the better he knows a person.
No matter how long one knows a person, there is usually some new things to still be learned. Along with all the new learning, people will often change over time, causing re-learning to occur.
Paul is wanting the people to really know the love of God. The purpose of knowing His love is so that they may be filled with all of God.
It is easy for people to claim that they know God. Often all this means is that they know about God or know just a small amount about God.
Since God is infinitely big and eternal, one cannot know absolutely everything about God. The one thing that a person must know about God, that most encompasses who He is, is to really know His love.
Since God is love, it is what most defines who God is and what His character is.
One must stop and think about how great His love is. God created man as perfect, in a perfect world, and yet man chose to disobey Him and sin against Him. Although man chose to sin against Him, God still loves mankind.
His love for man is so great that He made a way to redeem him and give him back the eternal initially intended for him. When a person can fully understand this great love, he will be filled with all of who God is.
Take a moment to realize how much God loves you. Think about how many times you have sinned against God.
Now realize that for every time you sinned against Him, you deserved eternal punishment and death. Yet, God did not destroy you, but made a way for you to be forgiven and given eternal life. And not only does God love you this way, He also loves everyone else this same way.
When you begin to realize a small portion of this great and endless love of God, you will be filled with who God is. Your life will be transformed by His great love for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s great love for you and this world; that you will be filled with God’s love; that you will be changed by God’s love; and that you will be filled with all of whom God is.
