Romans 15:13 Overflowing With Hope

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

People are always looking for hope, something to believe in. They look to things, money and people to give them reason to live. These things give them a short term of joy and peace, but fall very short quickly.

Often things look hopeless and people give up. They lack the power to keep moving forward with very little to hope for.

Paul gives a short prayer for God to fill the people with joy and peace that will overflow with hope given by the Holy Spirit.

With all of the turmoil, stress, destruction, violence, sickness and death in the world, very few people have any joy or peace. They seek for joy and peace in looking at things and people. Some may get a little joy for a moment, but it flees quickly in light of the rest of life’s troubles. Everything appears to be hopeless.

The believer has something that the world does not know about. It is knowing that God is in control and does what is best for him in every situation. As a believer begins to trust God, he will be filled with hope, which will result in joy and peace.

The joy comes because the believer knows that he is on the winning side with God in the end. He has peace, because he knows that God will bring him through whatever situation is in front of him.

As this joy and peace grows, the believer will also overflow with more and more hope in God. The power of the Holy Spirit will flow through him, strengthening him in times of trouble and turmoil.

You may be going through some difficult times or just watching the news and seeing nothing but turmoil. It may be tearing away at your joy and peace, threatening your hope.

Instead of looking to the world for your joy and peace, look to the God of hope. Trust God in every situation in your life or around your life. He is in control. Allow His joy and peace to overwhelm you and fill you with hope.

In the end you will win as you continue to trust God and believe in what Jesus did for you and is doing for you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the joy and peace of trusting in God; that you will overflow with hope in God; and that you will be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
