Amos 2:6 Guilty Of Sins

This is what the Lord says: For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not relent. They sell the innocent for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals. Amos 2:6

The majority of people feel as though they are a good person, not really guilty of anything bad. They often see themselves as a good person because they are comparing themselves to other people and the standards of this world. In doing so, they do not see that what they are doing is very often wrong and bringing judgement upon themselves.

Amos is telling the different countries what judgements God is bringing against them. He is foretelling God’s punishment because of sins. For Israel, they were guilty of selling the innocent for money.

While the majority of the world will say that it is bad to sell a person for money, it is a commonly done and accepted practice. One of the greatest and most accepted practices of this is found in abortion. Although not direct selling, people are getting rid of children in order to have a better career, more money, or more freedom.

It is also common for one person to step on and push down another person just to make more money. Slander against innocent people occurs on a regular basis to make oneself look better, to get the promotion for better pay.

According to the world, these and many other practices are acceptable. However, these actions do not show love, nor are they in line with God’s will. At the time it may look as though people are getting away with their sins, but God is watching. It is only a matter of time before He brings judgement upon them.

Every believer must examine his actions and see if they are guilty of sins or not. Some things may appear to be innocent, yet are against God.

Motivation is what can cause a lot of things that you do to be either good or bad. Some things are sin no matter what the motivation is. However, there are many other things that you may do that can be done for the wrong reasons, causing them to be sin.

If what you are doing is hurting others in order to bring you profit or promotion, then it is wrong, regardless of how innocent it is otherwise. As a believer, you are to live a life of love and encouragement, not control and destruction.

Are you selling yourself out to sin or to God?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will obey God in every area of your life; that you will repent to God of all sins; that you will be motivated by God’s love to love all others; and that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin.
