If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together, someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Job 9:33-34
A mediator is one who stands between two people who are opposing each other, in order to work something out between the two. It is always someone who can fully understand both sides of the argument.
It is common for people to get a mediator to help them solve disputes. The mediator will find some common ground between the two to build both up and bring them together.
Without a mediator, it can be very difficult for two parties to come to an agreement. Often they will not see the common ground, because both are so close to the dispute that all they see is their side and not the other side.
As Job was suffering and not understanding why he was suffering, he desired to have a mediator between him and God. He felt as though God was totally against Him and would not listen to him at all. Job thought that he was being punished for doing some wrong, while he could not remember doing any wrong. He needed help.
Every person has sinned against God and has a death penalty judgement placed upon them. In order to get out from under that death penalty, each person needs a mediator to stand between him and God.
God in His infinite love and wisdom knew that and provided a mediator. Jesus came to this earth to be the mediator between man and God. He would pay the penalty fees and present each person as pure and holy, no longer guilty. At that point a person can boldly approach God in all of His holiness.
Jesus can be your mediator between you and God. He is willing to stand between you and God and present your case. He has paid the price for your sins and made you holy unto God.
He can also give you peace when you are suffering and do not know why. Suffering is not always the result of personal sin. It can be the sin of others or the testing of God. Job had suffered, not because of sin, but because God was proving him, testing him.
Having a mediator will give you the needed peace that you are still in good standing with God. Go to the mediator God has provided and know God’s great love for you.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know you can go boldly before God through Jesus; and that you will trust God’s work in your life.
