“How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked. But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’ ” 2 Kings 4:43

One thing every person needs is food. Food is one of the basic necessities of this life that no one can do without. People work to have food set on their table.

Along with working for food, people also worry about having their needs met. Some people work extra hard, putting away money all the time for retirement. This is often done out of fear of provision during retirement.

A man had come with just twenty loaves of bread and had to feed at least one hundred men. He did not know how he was going to feed all them and satisfy their hunger. Elisha told him to give it to them and trust God to provide what was needed.

After giving the bread out to the men, they ate and still had some left over. Years later, Jesus would feed 5,000 men plus women and children on less food than what that man had.

God knows what people need. He knows that every person needs food to survive. God created people to need to eat, so He understands that. Yet people often live in fear of not getting what they need.

It is easy to look at what little one has and not see how it can provide for the needs. Yet, God created the entire universe out of nothing except His voice. If God can create, even just this world, out of nothing, He can provide for each and every need of each and every person. Look at how small one person is compared to just this earth, then take into consideration the entire universe.

There will be times that you will have only a little of something. You will have some large need that is greater than what you can provide. Trust God for that provision.

You already are trusting Jesus for forgiveness of sins and salvation. If you can trust Him with something that large, you can trust Him to provide food or anything else you need.

It is ok to work for what you need, but don’t worry about it. Go to God in prayer and trust Him. He will always provide what you need, when you need it and in His time. He is the God of provision, always has been and always will be.

I pray today that you will see God’s provision in your life; that you will trust God for His provision; that you will not live or work out of fear; and that you will know the abundant life God has for you.
