2 Samuel 9:1 Show Kindness To The Enemy

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1

Showing kindness is something that people will do to those who show kindness back. When a person is around someone who is not normally kind, he usually will not show any kindness. The harsher the person, the less likely one will show kindness to him.

The world looks at someone who is an enemy or not kind as not being worthy of kindness. That person will only be treated as an enemy and just as harsh as he is treating others. Not only will that person be treated harshly, but also his entire family will be despised and treated badly.

Saul was an enemy to David. He had set out to kill David for no real reason, other than jealousy. He treated David badly for many years. Yet, after his death, David was still willing to show kindness to Saul’s son Jonathan.

David was still willing to show God’s love and mercy to those who were his enemies. He did this out of love for others. David had cared for Saul and his son, Jonathan with a pure heart. That care was still there, despite the wrongs suffered.

One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is kindness. Every believer should have kindness in their heart and actions towards others.

There are many believers, who have not learned how to be kind to others. They are kind to those who are kind to them, but are rude and vengeful to those who are the enemy. They treat others as they are treated, rather than how God treats people.

It is the kindness of God that brings a person to repentance. It can be the kindness of a person that can draw others to God and to the person. It can break down walls of hostility and hatred.

As a believer, allow yourself to be filled with the kindness of God to everyone, including your enemies. Seek how you can show kindness in more than just words.

In this way you are demonstrating God’s love and kindness to people who do not know God.

Do not allow bitterness or anger build up in you from an enemy who has treated you wrong. Allow the love of God to overcome the enemy in your life.

Who should you begin to show kindness to today?

Today I pray that you will know God’s kindness to you; that you will know God’s love for you and all other people; that God will strengthen you to show His kindness to others; and that God will use you to reach others for Jesus.
