Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.” Luke 17:1
Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve and their being cast out of the garden of Eden, there has been sin in this world. Every person has the nature of sin in himself. The devil works to set up things to cause people to stumble in their walk with God.
People have the opportunity to turn to God and serve Him. Even though they have turned to God, there are still temptations to sin against Him. They will stumble in their walk at times. There is no way to completely avoid being tempted.
It is expected for the world to tempt a believer to walk away from God or just to disobey Him at times. It is not expected for other believers to do the same. Regardless of who does cause a stumble, that person is in trouble with God.
Most believers will quickly state that they never cause anyone to stumble. That is not always the case.
Causing another person to stumble can happen very easily. One believer may not have the same convictions about something, and another one may do what he believes is not right to do. This can cause him to question his faith or belief and get him to stumble in his walk with God.
It is often seen where one believer will push another to do something that he feels is wrong to do. Drinking, movies, music, actions and more all seem to be justified as acceptable by one believer, while another has a conviction not do it. Pressure to conform will cause the person to stumble. Be careful not to cause another to stumble.
You do not want to be that person who causes another person to stumble. Take a careful look at how you live your life around others, both believers and non-believers.
Do your words and actions lead a person towards God?
Or do your words and actions cause a person to stumble in their belief in God or their walk with God?
If you cause another person to stumble because of your actions or words, God will be upset with you. There will be trouble for you.
Show God’s love at all times, to all people, so that you will never cause another to stumble.
I pray today that you will live your life for God; that you will live in a way to not cause others to stumble; that God will guide you in how to live your life; and that you will be an example of Jesus to all.
