“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over all Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Micah 5:2
Israel and Judah were being destroyed as nations and put into captivity. One of the towns that were captured was Bethlehem. It was a small town, from a small tribe of Judah. They seemed very insignificant, yet, God had very large plans for that tribe. God would raise up a ruler, who would rule over all of Israel. This ruler would be one who had roots going back to ancient times. This prophecy was looking forward to when Jesus would come to the earth to save all mankind from their sins.
Most people love to hear about stories of an underdog, a person who is small and insignificant, make it big. Stories of a person who had everything going against him, yet, in the end was the big time winner or leader. Stories about the one who no one thought would make it, who had no real chance at any success, but did make it successfully.
Although Bethlehem was a small town from a small tribe, God would use them in a very large way. That way of using them would be one that would touch every nation around the world for the rest of history on this earth and into eternity. Salvation would be provided through a person who came from that small town.
You may look at yourself as someone who is very small and insignificant. You may think your life is not worth anything. Some may even be thinking of ending it all, because there does not seem to be any value in this life.
If you surrender your life to God, He can use you in mighty ways. In ways that can impact the world for eternity. Most people know the name of Billy Graham, but very few people can remember the name of the person who shared Jesus with him. That person appears to be small, but his few words impacted a person, who impacted the entire world for Jesus.
Allow God to use you in the way that He wants to use you. Allow God to use you to impact lives for all eternity. You can do great things through Jesus. You may not be large in the eyes of the world, but you are great in God’s kingdom.
I pray today that you will know God’s plans for you; that you will allow yourself to be used by God; and that God will use you to impact this world for His kingdom.
