Ecclesiastes 5:2 Slow To Speak To God

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. Ecclesiastes 5:2

While very few people pray to God on a regular basis, there are many who will cry out to Him in times of trouble. It is common for people to cry out to God when they are in danger, and as they cry out they often make promises to God.

These promises are usually along the lines of promising that they will live for Him, or give a certain amount of money, or do some ministry for Him if He gets them out of the situation. Although the promise itself may not be a bad thing, one has to be careful about the promise.

As many make the promise, most do not fulfill the promise. They forget about the promise within moments of God providing the help. It is often said that it was made in a rash moment without thought. People think that God understands why the promise was made, and yet not get fulfilled, that God will forgive them.

God looks at the promise as it is–a promise. As a believer you are told to live your life like Jesus, to imitate God. God has made many different promises over the history of mankind, and never has He was broken a promise or go back on His Word. He is always true and faithful to His Word.

You also need to be true and faithful to your word. If you make a promise to God, be sure to fulfill it. Better yet, be slow with your words and not so quick to make a promise.

You do not have to promise God anything in order for Him to love you or take care of you in any situation you are going through. His love for you is perfect all the time. Just bring your requests before God and trust Him to take care of you. Do not be quick to promise anything.

If you do promise God anything, then be very quick to fulfill that promise. Trust God to help you fulfill that promise, because God will hold you accountable to it.

I pray today that your words will be true to God; that you will trust God in all situations; that God will strengthen you to fulfill all promises made; and that you will slow down and think on how you speak to God.
