With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. Proverbs 7:21
In this passage Solomon describes a scene where a young man is walking down the street. He comes across a woman who is a prostitute. With many persuasive words she talks him into going with her and she leads him down a path of destruction. This woman was a prostitute and led him into a sexual encounter outside of marriage.
This is a scene that occurs around the world on a daily basis. While many would openly do this, there are many who would not go with a woman like this, at least not for direct pay. All over the world, both in the church and out of the church, men and women are sleeping together outside of marriage. The common words are, “if you love me, you will….”
The world loves to use persuasive words to get you to do things that should not be done. In this passage it is sexual immorality. Satan does not just stop with that area. He is trying to seduce you into sin of any sort.
Think about a time you had chosen to tell a lie or some other sin. What made you do it? Usually it was either someone else talked you into it, or in your own mind you thought it would be the best choice to make.
The enemy, the devil and this world, would like to trip you up and get you to follow their ways. They will use good sounding, smooth talk to make any sin sound like it is something good.
While the sin may sound and feel good at the moment, it ultimately leads to death. It pulls you away from God. It will cause pain and suffering in the end.
You are told to flee all sin and resist the devil. When the world comes talking smoothly to you, check what God says and stand on His word. Do not allow yourself to be led astray.
Stay grounded in God’s Word and you will know when the world is trying to deceive and seduce you. God will give you the path out of the situation, if you will follow it.
I pray today that God will open your eyes to the seduction of this world; that God will strengthen you to keep you from being led astray; that you will only be led by God; and that you will only follow God.
