2 Kings 12:3 Not Removing Everything

The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. 2 Kings 12:3

Joash, as the new king, started by doing what was right according to God while Jehoida was the priest under him. Although he followed God very well, he did not remove the places of false worship in the land. The people continued to offer sacrifices to the false gods, while worshipping God at the temple.

As a person cleans a room or a house, all of the dirt must be removed for it to be completely clean. Most people do not completely clean that thoroughly. Very few people will move the furniture to sweep behind it along the walls. Even fewer people will move the full refrigerator or freezer to clean behind them.

When this happens, the dirt starts to pile up behind things. As the dirt piles up, it becomes easier for that dirt and dust to make its way into the rest of the room or house. This can cause allergies to flare up, along with more dusting to be done on a regular basis.

In a person’s life, there are things that are dirty that are often hidden behind some good. There are altars and sacrifices being done in the secret places. The person may always be to church on time, every time the doors are open, teach Sunday School, give great offerings, and even witness every where he goes, but still have some dirt hidden in the dark.

People are often willing to give God many things in their life, but at the same time are unwilling to give up certain things. They place the “however” in their life.

As a believer and follower of Jesus, you must be willing to love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. This means you must allow God to come into your life and clean out all of the dirt of sin in your life. Do not close any doors to Him.

Jesus is not coming in to condemn destroy you, but to clean you up and give you real life. He wants to forgive you.

As you are living your life for God and doing great things for Him, are you holding back certain areas of your life?

Are you refusing to remove certain things in your life that are not honoring God?

Do not let it be said of you that you did a lot of great things “but” did not remove certain things. Give everything up for God and be like Jesus. It will be worth it in the end.

I pray today that God will reveal to you areas you need to clean up; that God will strengthen you to remove destructive things in your life; that you will love God with everything in you; and that you not have any altars to false gods in your life.
