Numbers 33:55 Driving Out The Enemy

“But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live.” Numbers 33:55

As the Israelites are getting ready to cross the Jordan River and go into the land of Canaan to live there, God gives them a warning. That warning is that they must get drive out all of the inhabitants of the land. He does not want the inhabitants to become trouble for the Israelites.

The Israelites had to deal with physical people worshipping false gods in the land where they were going. They had to push those people out, because if they did not those people would lead them into false worship and other sinful practices.

On your journey in life with Jesus, there will be new lands you are going into. These could be new physical locations, or it could be new levels of spiritual growth.

As you go into these new locations, there will always be some enemy that needs to be driven out. There may be times you must give up a friendship with someone because they are attempting to lead you down the wrong path in life.

More often you will need to drive out old habits. As you grow closer to Jesus, God will reveal to you old habits that need to go. Jesus wants you to be a new creation. You are to be just like Jesus.

If you allow old habits of sin to remain in your life, they will become a thorn in your side. God does not want the old sinful lifestyle to remain in you as you say you want to follow and serve Him.

What enemies do you see in your life?

Are you allowing them to still live in your life?

Or are you willing to drive them out with God’s help?

I pray today that God will reveal enemies that are in your life; that He will strengthen you to drive out the enemy; that you will be a new creation in Jesus; and that you will inhabit the land God is bringing you into.
