Leviticus 11:24 Touching Unclean Things

“You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening.” Leviticus 11:24

God lays out of list of various types of animals that were classified as unclean. The people were not to eat these unclean animals. Along with not eating them, they were also not allowed to touch the carcasses of those animals if they died. Either way would cause the person to become unclean.

When Jesus came, He did away with a lot of these laws on which animals could be touched or not touched, eaten or not eaten. Although these laws are no longer in effect, there are other things believers should stay away from. Now the limitation is not to just certain types of animals and insects, but to many other things in life in this world.

Every believer is to not only flee all sin, they must also flee all appearances of sin and evil.

Sin and evil can be found in movies, music, art, books, games, and nearly every other area of life. The standard that Jesus set is very high and very strict, just like the standard set by God through Moses in the Law.

Think about the movies or tv shows you have seen. Or the books you have read. Or one of many other things you have experienced. Ask yourself, do you think that Jesus would have read or watched or did whatever was done?

If you cannot honestly answer yes to that question, then it is probable that you should not be doing it either. You are called to be holy as Jesus was holy. You were called to be just like Jesus is.

When you allow yourself to dabble in a little sin, it will grow on you and tear you down. It will only be a matter of time before you fall away from follow God to live in sin.

Every time you touch or see something of sin, it makes you unclean. This is just like touching the carcasses of the dead animals. Do not allow yourself to be desecrated by touching sin in any way.

I pray today that God will reveal to you things that are sinful; that you will see the blackness of all sin; that you will not allow yourself to be contaminated by sin; and that you will live a life that brings honor to God.
