“The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” Exodus 12:13
Moses kept going to Pharaoh with greater signs and judgments asking him to release the people. With nine various tragedies, Pharaoh only hardened his heart against releasing the people more. The final judgment was to be an angel of death going through all of Egypt and killing the first-born male of every household.
As God was going to do this, He also wanted to protect the Israelites. He gave them an order to place the blood of a lamb on the doorposts of their home, and to stay in the home the night it would happen. As God passed through Egypt, He would see the blood and pass over it, not causing any destruction there.
The salvation of the Israelites had nothing to do with their work or abilities, it had to do with the grace and mercy of God. All they had to do was accept it and believe God.
Several thousand years later, Jesus did the same thing. He poured out His blood to save people. Whoever took that blood and put it on the doorposts of their heart would be saved. God would look down and see that blood on their heart and pass them over for death and destruction.
Many people try to earn their way of salvation. The try to live a certain way and not do certain things. These are all good and the way a person probably should live, but it will not give you salvation. Once you have sinned, all you deserve is death and punishment, like the Egyptians.
There has to be a covering to remove the sin in your life. The blood of the animals was dead, but God saw it and passed by. The blood of Jesus is alive and removes all sin. It removes the judgment against you.
Have you placed the blood of Jesus on the doorposts of your heart and life?
Or are you trying to live on your own and gain favor with God?
I pray today that you will know Jesus and the salvation He brings; that you will know the power of His blood in your life; that you will trust in Jesus and not yourself; and that God will do mighty works in and through you as He saves you.
