Genesis 16:13 The One Who Sees Me

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me’, for she said, I have now seen the One who sees me.” Genesis 16:13

God had promised a son to Abram. When Sarai could not have a child, she gave him her maid, Hagar, to have a child by her. Once Hagar had a child, Sarai was jealous and started to treat her badly. After a while she sent Hagar away.

With nowhere to go, Hagar just wandered around the desert with her son Ishmael. With no food or water, she knew that in time they would die. She sat the child down and started weeping. God heard her cries and came to her. He provided water in the desert and told her that Ishmael would become a nation. In this Hagar realized that God had seen her right where she was at.

Believers everywhere have times of wondering if God really sees them or knows what is going on. This is especially true when things are going bad, when there looks like there is no hope for the future.

There are times when you may be going through a situation that looks hopeless. There does not seem to be a solution to the situation. You may be in that desert right now wondering what is next. You are probably crying out to God for help and at the moment He seems silent.

Do not give up. God is hearing your prayers. In the right time He will answer and He will answer in the best way possible. Jesus said that He would never leave you, nor forsake you. Are you trusting His words?

Think back on the times God has come through for you in other situations in your life. Now remember, if He did it then, He will do it again.

God is not just seeing others, He sees you also. Know that God is the One who sees you and will take care of you.

I pray today that you will see God in a new way; that you will know God sees and knows you; that you will know that God is with you; and that you will trust in God’s provision for everything.
