“It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.” 3 John 3
John’s third letter was to a man named Gaius. There is not much information given as to who he was or what he did, other than he was someone who was active in the church. Some people had come to John giving the report that Gaius was being faithful in spreading the truth of God and was living in that truth.
No matter who you are or where you are, there are people who are watching you. They hear and see everything you say and do. Often this is done without a person even realizing that another person is watching.
With people watching like this, they also talk. They will tell others about what they have seen or heard. Sometimes this is done as gossip, other times it can be done in praise and lifting up a person.
The big question is what will people say about you? What can they say about you if they spoke the truth?
How you live your life will be a big determiner of what people will be able to say about you. There are many believers in the church that if you saw them during the week at a workplace, you would not see any sign that they were a believer in Jesus. They live a dual life–one in church, and one in the world. Their language and actions show anything but Jesus. They may say they believe in Jesus, but everything they say and do points to something different.
If you believe in Jesus, it needs to be more than just on Sunday. Every day and in every place you go, you must show Jesus. Live in His truth. This means speaking love and truth to everyone. It means acting correctly and fairly with everyone.
Do not allow yourself to live like the world, when not around other believers. Do not conform to the world’s standards.
When you live your whole life for Jesus, people will be able to give you a good report as to your faithfulness to God and His truth. What will people be able to say about you?
I pray today that you will know God’s word in your heart; that you will live in the truth of God’s Word; that you will not bring any shame to God; and that people will know you live for Jesus every day and everywhere you are.
