“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:27-28
There is an old saying that there are only two things guaranteed in life: taxes and death. It may be true about the taxes, but it is a definite fact of death. Every person will die. The author of Hebrews points out that after death a person will then have to face judgment.
This judgment is God judging whether the person is right before Him or not. In himself a person cannot ever stand right before God. Once a person has committed one sin, he is guilty for the rest of eternity.
This is where Jesus comes in to help. He came about 2,000 years ago to become a sacrifice for every person to remove their sins. He died on the cross and rose again to take away those sins.
At some point in the future Jesus will return again. This time it will not be to take away sins, but to take each person who is waiting for Him to return.
What does it mean to “wait for His return”?
It is looking forward to Him returning. Living your life as He wants you to live it. Striving to be like Jesus in everything you think, say or do. When you are living this way you are living in expectation of His return. When you face death, you will not be afraid because you are standing right before God because of what Jesus has done for you.
How are you living your life today?
Does the life you are living show that you are expecting Jesus to return at any moment? Or does it show a life that does not care about what Jesus has done for you?
Do not be caught living for yourself and this world when Jesus returns. He could return any minute, live with that in mind.
Jesus died and shed His blood for you. Live for Him today. The future with Him will be worth everything you must go through till He returns.
I pray today that you will know that Jesus will return soon; that you will live your life for God; that you will live expecting Jesus to return soon; and that you will be living as Jesus wants you to live.
