2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Why God Comforts You

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

When a people go through a difficult time they desire some comfort. Where and how they get this comfort is different for each person. The world does not have God to look to, so they will look to things of this world for their comfort.

Some will turn to different types of foods, others will turn to drugs or medications, others will focus more on their job or some other favorite pastime activity, and others will look to other friends. This list for where people seek comfort is infinite.

All of these comforts will help for a short time, but not for long. They are only temporary comforts.

God, however, will comfort with a guaranteed, eternal, and perfect comfort. His comfort comes in knowing that He loves you, that He is in absolute perfect control of the situation, that He is looking out for your best, that the blood of Jesus is saving you, that you have a life for eternity in heaven some day, and that God will never leave you, nor forsake you.

The purpose of getting all of these comforts from God is not just to comfort you for yourself. It is not for you to hoard them. They are for you to share with others.

Once you have been comforted by God in a situation, you are able to pass that same comfort on to someone else in the same type of situation. No matter what you have gone through someone else has gone through it already and someone else is going through it now, and someone else will yet go through it in the future.

Know yourself the comforts that God is giving you. Let others know the comforts that God has for them. Trust God in your situation and rest in His peace and comfort.

I pray today that you will know the peace God has for you; that God will show you ways you can share the comforts He has blessed you with; that you give God the praise for all comfort you receive; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
