“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” Romans 4:20-21
Paul talks about Abraham’s faith and the promise God gave him. When Abraham was an old man and was without a child, God promised him a son and many heirs. Abraham was at the point of being past having any children in the normal scheme of life.
Yet, Abraham had complete faith in God. He did not question God at all but believed that God had the power to do what He had promised.
Talking about having faith, and having faith are two different things. Many people like to talk, but most do not have it, they will waver in their belief.
There was a story once of a tight-roper walker who walked across a rope over a high area. He then rode a bicycle and walked a wheel barrel over it, back and forth several times each. The crowds of people were amazed and said they knew he was an expert at this. He then asked the crowd if anyone would ride the wheel barrel over with him. No one would do it. There were afraid, even though they said they believed he was an expert and could do it.
In this same way many Christians state that they believe the promises of God. God has promised to save you, to provide for all of your needs, to love you, and to forgive you. Yet, many Christians question God in each of these areas.
How many times do you become afraid, wondering if God is going to provide for your needs?
How many times do you question if God really does love you as you are going through a tough time, or when you failed Him?
How many times do you forget the promises God has made to you? Both the promises in the Bible and the promises you hear through others or in your time of prayer.
Do not waver at all. Stand firm in your faith in God. Know that whatever God has promised, God will do.
Physically Abraham had no reason to believe God’s promise. He believed in God’s power and faithfulness to do what He said He would do. Will you believe today?
I pray today that you will know the promises God has made to you; that you will believe God will fulfill His promises to you; that you will not fear God failing you; and that you will be strengthened in your faith in God.
