“The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” “He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.” Matthew 25:40, 45
Jesus told a picture of the end when He returns. Every person would be divided into one of two groups: the sheep and the goats. The sheep are those who did what God wanted. The goats are those who did not do what God wanted.
Looking at the sheep, Jesus tells them that they fed, clothed and visited Him. Looking at the goats, He told them that they did not feed, cloth or visit Him.
Both groups were stunned. They did not remember ever doing any of those things for Him. Jesus then states that if you did these things for any person, you did it for Him; and if you did not do it for a person, you did not do it for Him.
Every person has the ability to do something for someone else. It does not matter if you are wealthy or very poor. Visiting someone who is sick or in prison does not cost money, just a little time, but it can make a difference in a person’s life.
If you have the ability to meet a need in someone else’s life, you need to do what you can to meet that need. As you do that, you are also doing it for Jesus. This goes even for helping someone who does not believe in Jesus at all.
The world even sees some value in helping other people out. The difference is that the world does it to look good. As a believer you should be doing it out of love for the person and love for Jesus. Everything you do is to be done as though being done for God.
Ask God to show you ways you can help someone out today. Look for ways to meet a need in someone’s life. Remember if you do not meet a need you could have met, you did not meet a need that Jesus had. Everything you do or do not do counts.
I pray today that God will show you ways to help others out; that your eyes will be opened to the needs of others; that you will see that helping others is helping Jesus; that you will not miss an opportunity to be a blessing; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
