Matthew 24:45-46 Being Faithful and Wise

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.” Matthew 24:45-46

Jesus is talking about what the end times will be like. It will be a time when everyone is doing their own thing, not paying attention to the time. Now Jesus talks about the servant who is doing the correct thing.

In the workplace there are times when the boss will give a list of things for the workers to do, and then he leaves. While he is gone, he expects the directives that he has given to be followed.

Often there are some in the workplace who will then start to play and goof-off. One or more of the workers will not do much, while the rest do all the work. It appears that they are getting away with the playing.

Then, suddenly the boss reappears earlier than what was expected. Those who were playing then get into trouble with the boss. No one has a problem with this because they are supposed to be working, not playing.

Jesus likens this to the end of time and His return. He is the boss. All believers are the servants/workers. Some will be partying and not doing the work they are supposed to be doing and will be punished. Others will be working correctly and will be rewarded.

What is the work you are supposed to be doing for God? At a minimum it is being a witness and living for God. God has an individual plan of work specific to each person. He expects you to be doing the work He has given you.

Seek God to know what job He wants you to be doing. Now, faithfully do that work. Be wise and do not live your life for yourself. Live for God and for others. God will take care of you.

When Jesus returns or calls you home, may He find you being the wise and faithful servant.

Are you being wise and faithful today?

I pray today that God will reveal His work for you to do; that you will do the work God has given you to do; that you will be wise and faithful to Jesus; that you be His witness daily in everything you say and do; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
