Matthew 5:9 Making Peace

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

Peace making is something that is talked about a lot. Various countries send delegates to other countries to try to bring peace with them or between two other countries.

Very often when there are two countries fighting the United States will send in people to try to bring peace back to that region. All over the news is talk about attempts to bring peace to various areas. Many peace treaties have been signed over the years. These are grand scale peace making efforts.

On a local level you have the many police officers who try to keep the peace in the town. Teachers will walk the halls of a school and try to keep the peace among the students.

As an individual you, also, can be one who makes peace. The starting of this is with those who have had a fight with you individually. A person whose true goal is peace is not concerned about being seen as right, or getting his way. He no longer wants to fight.

In order to make peace with someone, one of those involved must be willing to back down on there stand. Between the two they must meet in the middle. As a believer, you must never compromise the standards of God and what God says. Outside of the standards of God, compromise is a wide open possibility.

Along with making peace yourself, you can also be the mediator between two or more others in a fight. Many people do not want to get involved in another person’s fight, but remember that Jesus came down to this earth to be a mediator between you and God. He brought peace between you and the Father.

Most fights on an individual basis are based on misunderstandings. Stand in the gap and help the two parties to understand each other. Seek peace. There will be times where there will be disagreements, but that does not mean there has to be a fight.

Jesus said if you seek to be a peacemaker you will be called a child of God. Jesus had times where He brought about division, but He also brought about peace. Are you seeking to bring peace today?

I pray that God will open doors for you to bring about peace today in other people’s lives; that you will seek peace with those you are in a fight with; that God will bring His peace into your life; and that you will not be known as a fighter but one who loves like Jesus does.
