Matthew 1:24 Do It Right Now

“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.” Matthew 1:24

An angel had come to Mary and told her that God would give her a child even though she was not married yet. She was engaged to be married to Joseph. Being pregnant at this time frame would usually mean sexual actions outside of marriage…a sin.

Joseph was a man who followed God with all of his heart and abilities. He realized the problem and decided to protect her but still could no longer marry her. This was a good thing to do according to the Law. It was not correct though, since the pregnancy was from God Himself.

During the night, God sends an angel to talk with Joseph. Joseph is given the message that there was nothing done wrong in this pregnancy and that it was from God. God was, now through them, fulfilling a long-held prophecy of sending a Messiah. He wants Joseph to still get married to Mary.

Imagine how hard this must have been for him. People would see Mary being pregnant. They would not be stupid, when the baby would be born, many would count back the days and realize they were not married when it started. People would talk, and most likely not in a good way.

Joseph had to put all of his trust in God. The whiplash of this could be death by stoning. The Law stated that anyone caught in sexual immorality was to be stoned to death.

Yet, in the morning, Joseph gets up and gets married to Mary. He does what God has told him to do, regardless of how hard it looked.

This shows tremendous faith in God. There are going to be times in your life that God is going to ask you to do something that sounds utterly ridiculous. You need to be willing to step out in faith and do it. Trust God, He knows what He is doing and having you do. God sees the bigger picture.

Do not argue with God about what He wants done. And do it right away. Do not wait. There is a purpose for God to have you do what He is asking you to do right now. If you wait, you may miss the opportunity of a lifetime to build His kingdom. If Joseph would have sent Mary away, there may have never been a salvation for you today.

I pray today that God will open your eyes to see the plans He has for you to do; that God will help you build your faith and trust in Him; that you will do what God is calling you to do; that you will not turn from His calling; and that God will change the world through you.
