1 John 3:1 What You Are

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1

In this world knowing someone important can open many doors. Often if you try to go to someone important and do not know anyone directly, the doors will be closed, but as soon as you name someone important in sending you, the doors open wide.

Even more doors will open if you are the child of someone important. Remember the pictures of John F Kennedy’s children playing around the desk of the President of the United States in the Oval Office. Not just any child would be able to do that. In fact, very few have ever been able to do that. Thousands of people each year get to visit the White House, but most likely none of the children get to play in the Oval Office.

Knowing the President is great, but how much greater is it to be his child? It is the same with God. Knowing God is great, but being His child is even greater.

Noticed how John tells you that the Father has lavished great love on us in calling you His child. This love is poured out on you not just in a little bit, but over abundantly more than you can imagine.

Think about this. You were not born serving God. You sinned against Him. You hated Him. Yet, God, in His great love is willing to accept you and call you His child! What great love!

What greater position can you hold than a child of God? A child of the One who created the entire universe. A child of the One who holds absolute power and owns everything.

The world does not really know you. You are a strange person to the world. This is because they do not know God. Remember that you are set apart, holy unto God.

Today, when no one seems to care about you; when the boss treats you harshly; when you feel down and alone–remember that you are a child of God. As a child of God, you hold access to absolute power and all wealth and all health. You have the greatest favor that can ever be given to a person.

I pray that today God will reveal His love to you; that you will have a full understanding of being a child of God; that you will live like a child of God; and that you will be a witness in this world of God and His love.
