1 John 4:5 The World Speaks

They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 1 John 4:5

Everyday people all over the world are talking. They are talking about nearly every subject under the sun possible to be talked about.

One thing that determines what people talk about is what they are interested in personally or what someone they are talking to is interested in. Along with that determining factor, they have to talk about what they know about. The more they know, the more they can talk.

John talks about the people who are in the world. They are speaking from the viewpoint of the world and those in the world are willing to listen.

It is easy for a person to talk to someone who has the same viewpoint. There is no argument or debate when both people are on the same page of understanding.

Many people will tune out someone who is talking about something that they have no clue about.

Often when believers start talking, the world tunes them out because they do not understand what is being said. The believer is talking about spiritual and eternal things. These are things that do not exist in the mind of the person of the world.

Those in the world only understand the temporary and physical things, so they reject the spiritual things of God. All that exists in the mind is what is right before their eyes that they can physically see or touch. Their eyes have not been opened to the spiritual and eternal things.

Believers must keep this in mind when talking to those in the world. Their words must be changed to help them begin to understand the spiritual realm of life. Until the non-believer gets a vision of spiritual things, he will not listen nor understand what is being said.

As a believer you must change your viewpoint from that of the temporary, worldly viewpoint to that of God’s spiritual and eternal viewpoint. Do not keep yourself focused upon the temporary physical things of this world, but upon that which is of God and heaven.

Realize that the world may not listen to you or understand you when you speak to them about God. However, you can reveal God to them by how you live and what you say.

Be His witness each day until their eyes are opened.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that you will understand the things of God; that you will have God’s viewpoint on life; and that you will be God’s witness to this fallen and blind world.

1 Corinthians 3:1 Are You Still Worldly?

Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly–mere infants in Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:1

When a person speaks to some other person about some technical information, he must be assured that the other person can understand it. Often, the other person cannot understand technical information, unless he works in that field on a regular basis.

When this occurs, the one speaking must break down his information as though explaining it to a child. The extreme fine technical details must be left out, due to not being able to be understood.

Paul wanted to give the Corinthians some close details of the way God works, but was unable to do so. The people were still living by the world’s standards, not God’s Holy Spirit.

Being led by the Holy Spirit will bring a person to a new level of understanding of worldly events and how God works. Sadly, many believers do not like to attain that new level. They are content to stay at the lower levels of maturity.

There are a lot of believers who are still living like the world, refusing to grow in the Lord and change. Some will say that they do not need to change, because God still loves them as they are and is saving them. Others will not change, because it is costly and painful.

People like this remain infants in God. They refuse to grow up and become more mature. If a child does not grow and change, there is a problem. Parents and doctors become worried and try to seek out why they are not growing, it is not normal.

For a believer to not grow, there is a major problem. Every believer must grow more mature in God’s word, being able to take on greater things of God and understanding more.

Examine your life and see how well you are maturing in God’s word and ways. Look back over time and see if you have changed for the better, gotten worse, or stayed the same.

If you have not matured, seek God’s Holy Spirit to help you grow. Be led by the Holy Spirit in how to live for God and turn away from all sin. Do not allow yourself to stay as an infant, being led by the world and its ways. Become a grownup in Christ.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that you will learn to turn away from sin; that you will grow in being more like Jesus; and that you will do as God wants you to do.

1 Corinthians 3:1 Being Worldly

“Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly–mere infants in Christ.”

Paul was talking to the church in Corinth. He was making a very harsh statement to them about them. He was basically calling them babies that were refusing to grow up. It was border line stating that they were not Christian but only of the world because of the way they were acting.

They were accused of being worldly. Being worldly is being or acting like the world.

How does the world act? Selfish, jealous, fighting, demanding, cheating, accusing, and many other things. Look all around and you will see these things. Follow the news and everything is centered on these types of actions in one way or the other.

Many in the church today are often selfish wanting their own way. They throw pointing fingers at others. They fight with others to have their own way. They demand that others believe exactly as they do. They skimp out and cheat others in the dealings.

Think about how a little child acts. They will do all of these things because they do not know any other way to act. A little child has not learned how to act correctly. The parents should be working at leading the child to learn to act correctly.

In the same way as a believer you must learn from the Holy Spirit as to how to act correctly in this life. God is your Father who will train you to act as He would. Jesus would never act in any of these worldly ways. He was led by the Holy Spirit in everything He said and did. He was in this world but not of this world. He was set apart.

As you go through life today how are you living it? Could you be accused of being worldly? Are you living your life as the world does?

Or are you being led by the Holy Spirit? Are you separate from this world? Are you set apart from this world?

I pray today that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that you will act and speak as Jesus would; that you will grow up in the Lord Jesus Christ; that you will be separate from the world; and that you will be God’s light in this world.
