The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. 2 Samuel 23:2
All around the world people are talking and people are listening. Words are constantly being used to say something. Trillions of things are being said every day by people all over the world.
As these things are being said, some of them have little to no value and some should not even be said at all. Words of cursing, destruction, cutting down, rudeness, anger, hatred and more should never be said. Some of these words are said on accident, while the majority are said from the heart of the person.
Other words that people speak can have some value and wisdom in it. However, with the value and wisdom of this world, these words are only of temporary value, nothing of eternal value.
David talks about how God’s Spirit spoke through him. God had given him words to speak. These words have eternal value. All throughout parts of the book of Psalms are many verses that David had written under the inspiration of God’s Spirit. He was able to guide and lead the people correctly because of the words God had given him.
God still speaks through believers today. He will give them the words to say, words that build up believers, tear down walls and break bondages in the lives of people. His words are alive and true. There is no falsehood in His words and these words have eternal value. They are as good today as His written word is and was two thousand years ago.
As God pours out His Holy Spirit upon a person and gives him words to say, these words will always line up with His written word, the Bible. God will not and cannot contradict His word. He does not want His follower to contradict it either.
Open yourself up to God and allow Him to give you the words to speak. This can be in any situation, not just with directly witnessing to a another person. God can give you His words of wisdom to work out a situation at home, work, or any other place.
The words that God can and will give to you by His Holy Spirit will always have eternal value woven into them. They will be words of truth filled with love.
Are you allowing God to speak to the world through you?
Or are you using only your own words?
I pray today that you will allow God’s Spirit to give you what to say; that your words spoken will be the words of God; that God will change lives through the words He gives you; and that your words have eternal truth and value in them.
“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 20:31
John is coming to a close in this book. He states that with all that he recorded of Jesus doing miracles, there was still much more that were not recorded. The few that he recorded was to have a record so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah and by that belief have life.
No one alive today was in Israel at the time Jesus walked on this earth. All that can be seen today is the written records of who He was and what He did.
These records point out that Jesus is the Messiah and one can be saved through Him. Once a person can see that, it must be accompanied by a belief in those words.
As a person believes in those words, one can see with his heart Jesus for who He really is. Jesus will reveal Himself to you through the Gospel messages and through others.
There are many people who like the Bible as just a group of good stories. Or it is just something a pastor talks from on Sunday. The Bible, with the Gospel messages, is God’s way of showing His love for you and His plan for your life.
Do you believe the message given? When you are in doubt read the Bible. When you are questioning your walk with God, read the Bible. Believe what is written there and apply it to your life. Have the life that God is offering you. Along with having that life, pass it on to others.
Stay in God’s Word to keep your eyes on Jesus and to know Him more. As you stay in His Word you will be able to have your own Gospel record written of all that Jesus has done for you and in you. He is still doing miracles today for you. Are you living that life? Are you believing in Jesus?
I pray today that God’s Word will be real to you; that you will know Jesus in a more personal way; that you believe in Jesus as the Messiah; that you will have the life Jesus offers; and that you will live the life Jesus offers.
“I am the Lord’s servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” Luke 1:38
An angel had just appeared to Mary. She was a single girl who was pledged to be married. The angel brings some interesting news. He states that she would have a child.
Mary had never been with a man, so this child would come by the power of God. It would be done by a miracle of God.
The amazing thing is how willingly she accepts this message.
Think about the implications of her having a child. She is a virgin and is pledged to get married to Joseph. If she becomes pregnant, in the eyes of the world, only one of two things must have happened: she was unfaithful to Joseph and slept around, or she and Joseph had slept together.
This type of situation would make her and Joseph look very bad. What kind of thoughts would be going through a church today if a single, young, virgin girl was suddenly pregnant in the church? The rumor mill would be running at full strength. Many would look down upon her and her parents.
Mary had to have known all of these things immediately upon hearing the angel’s message to her. Yet, she states that she is just a servant of God and may His word be fulfilled. She accepts the job of having God’s child outside of wedlock.
What can you get out of this? God will never ask you to have His child in the same way, but He may ask you to do something else that is just as crazy.
God may ask you to do something that on the outside looks bad or dangerous. It may be something that seems to put you and your family into great danger. The world, and even many in the church, will say don’t do it.
Are you a willing servant of God? Are you willing to do His desires? Are you trusting that His word be fulfilled in your life, no matter how crazy it is?
Trust God and serve Him. He is in control and knows what is best. Be like Mary in being His servant. Do not run or fear His desires.
I pray today that God will reveal His plans for you; that you will be led by His Holy Spirit; that you will not fear His plans; that you will be His servant; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
“Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
Jesus has been in the desert for 40 days with no food and He is very hungry. The devil comes and tries to get Him to make some stones into bread, since He is the Son of God.
Jesus comes back with a statement quoting Deuteronomy 8:3. That verse starts with a well-known and accepted statement that even the world accepts: you cannot live on bread alone.
There is nothing wrong in having bread in itself. In fact, Jesus broke bread at the last supper and provided bread for feeding the 5,000 and the 7,000. Bread is good for you, but it does not contain all that you need.
Along with bread you need some fruits, vegetables and the meat or protein. Eating just bread will cause you to get sick and your body will fail to function correctly. Even those who don’t believe in God will tell you that you need to eat a well-balanced meal.
In your spiritual walk this is the same. There are some people out there who will just read the gospels and nothing else. They will state if Jesus did not say it, it doesn’t apply.
Others will pull a single verse out of a passage and live by that verse alone. Time is not usually taken to see what the whole Bible says about a given subject, just a verse or two.
Here, Jesus states that you must live on every Word of God. You might ask then how does the Word of God fill you up physically? It does not fill you physically in any way, but it is in the idea of following all of God’s Word. If God has not told you to eat so that you may fast for a time, then you had best not eat. God will sustain you.
Often in life people feel they need more than what God has for them. This is not true. All you need is God’s Word and direction. If you follow God in all He says to say and do, you will have more than you need. Read the whole Word of God–the Bible and listen to the speaking of His Holy Spirit in your life. Eat a well nourished meal daily with God.
I pray today that God will open your eyes and hears to hear His Word for you; that you will live on every word God speaks; that you will not fall into sin trying to live on something God has not given you; that you will see the lies of the world; and that God will fill you with all that you need daily from His Word.
“Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:15-16
John sees a rider on a white horse with the name of Faithful and Truth coming out of the clouds in heaven. As he continues to describe the person, he finishes with the statement that he is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus had called Himself the Truth. This is describing Jesus.
In this description, it states that He has a sword coming out of His mouth to strike down the nations. Paul tells you that the Word of God is a sword that you can use. Jesus used it when striking back at the devil when He was tempted in the desert.
God’s Word is living and does not return empty, without fulfilling its purpose. His Word was used to create the heavens and the earth. It will be by His Word that nations are destroyed.
Even today, if a wealthy person commits a crime, and the judge rules that he is guilty, all the money he has cannot change that ruling. Once the ruling is made, it is final. It is by the word of the judge that it is finalized.
The world thinks that it has everything going for it today…money, power, defense and more. None of those things will stand up to the judgment of being guilty before God.
Jesus will rule with an iron scepter. This iron scepter is God’s perfect rule and judgment. There will be no deviation from His Word and requirements allowed.
This shows why He has the name of King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus will rule over everyone, regardless of their position.
It will be better for you to give Jesus that position of being your king, then for Him to have to take that position in judgment. Serve God with all that is in you today, so that you will not have to face His wrath later as He takes rule over you. Give Him the position of Lord of your life.
I pray today that God will reveal His Word to you; that you will give Jesus the position of Lord of your life; that God will strengthen you as you follow Him; that His Word will be real to you; and that you will be a witness to others that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
