Isaiah 5:2 Looking For Production

Vineyard with grapes

He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit. Isaiah 5:2

When someone plants a garden they expect to get something good out of it. They work the ground to ensure it has the right nutrients. Seeds are planted during the best part of the season to ensure good growth. They strive to provide the right amount of water for the plants to grow.

Later when the harvest season comes, the farmer expects to get the fruit or vegetables in great amounts that were planted. However, there are times when the plants yield nothing or only bad fruit.

Isaiah paints of picture of God planting a vineyard with the best of vines. When it came time for harvest, all that was produced was bad grapes of no value.

The vineyard that Isaiah talks about is very specifically the nation of Israel. Yet, this can be looked at with all believers. God is still in the process of building a vineyard of believers upon this earth. He is growing a large body of believers to follow Him.

Just as the farmer expects to get some good fruit and God expected Israel to produce fruit, He expects the believer to produce fruit.

All too often believers are like Israel was, producing no fruit. They claim to believe in Jesus, read the bible, go to church, but never produce any fruit. Their lives never really change. They live purposefully in sin refusing to change. They are never a witness of who Jesus is. They do not show God’s love in their lives.

Looking at some of the people, one will only see the world, not Jesus.

You, as a believer, are expected by God to produce some fruit. He has given you His Holy Spirit to guide you and give you strength to do what needs to be done. However, it is up to you to do it.

Be willing to be His witness. Show His love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace to others. Build others up in Jesus.

Your life should be one that looks like the life of Jesus. Work to live like Jesus as though your salvation depended upon it, but trust what Jesus did for your salvation. Produce the fruit in believing and following Jesus.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that God will see His fruit in your life; that the world will see Jesus in you; that you will allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide you; and that many will know Jesus because of your life.

Song Of Solomon 5:9 How Is He Better?

Best award

How is your beloved better than others, most beautiful of women? How is your beloved better than others, that you so charge us? Song Of Solomon 5:9

People have their favorites in nearly everything there is. Each person has a reason for why what they have or think is the best or better than something or someone else.

Every year there are many different competitions and award shows to determine who or what is the best in nearly every category possible, from sports to music, to speaking, to acting and more. After the choices are made, many will argue as to why theirs was the best and should have been chosen and the one chosen should not have been chosen.

In Solomon’s story of love, the friends of the lady are asking why her beloved is so much better than theirs. She was looking for him and asking for their help and they wanted to know why.

One area that is commonly discussed is why is Christianity better than other religions or why is Jesus better than other great men in history. People want to know why someone is willing to follow and even give his life to follow Jesus.

Every believer needs to be ready and willing to give an answer to why they follow Jesus. They need to be able to answer why following Jesus is the only way to get to God.

Answering this may offend some people, and it will, but it will also open the eyes of others to His great love. When they see the love of God really being showed, they will want to be a part of it. It is His love and kindness that draws people to Him.

Jesus is the best way to God, because He is the only way to God.

As a believer, Jesus has called you to be His witness, to let people know about Him and what He has done. This is the way you can tell people how Jesus is better than what they are following.

Jesus is alive and real and will be for all eternity. All the things and gods that people follow will fail and fade away. You need to let them know the truth–Jesus, and let the truth–Jesus set them free from the bondage they are in.

Do not give into second best, but only go for the best and point people to what is the best–Jesus.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will tell others about Jesus; that you will know that Jesus is the only way to God; and that you will not fear telling others about Jesus.

Psalm 133:1 Living In Unity

Men standing together

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Living in unity is something that is not very common. Everyone has their own agenda and goals in life. Each person has their own thoughts as to how things should be.

In the process of having their own thoughts on how things should be, many will fight against anyone who does not agree with them. Most people want everyone to agree with them on everything, or else the other person is wrong.

Disunity comes as a result of selfishness. Each person wants his own way in whatever is being discussed. Families, communities, cities, nations often work and live in disunity. Everyone disagreeing with everyone else.

David knew the value of living in unity. He saw the dangers and struggles that could occur when there was disunity. When people lived in unity it was always a good thing to occur.

Just as it is common to see disunity in the world, it also occurs among believers. There are many who believe that having different beliefs is automatically disunity. This is not necessarily true.

God can guide each and every person on different paths in life and not have disunity. The unity is found in everyone worships God, everyone strives to be like Jesus, and everyone works at building God’s kingdom.

The manner in which these things are carried out may look differently from person to person. One may worship standing up, while the other does it sitting down. This is not disunity, but just differences in manner. The unity is still found in worshipping God.

One should not argue, fight or look down on the other because he does it differently. Focus on God and His kingdom, not the little petty things. People need to agree to disagree on how things can be done, but not to fight about, but be in unity despite it.

There will be things that others do that you do not fully agree with. Do not allow those things to get in the way of worshipping God and building His kingdom with them. Strive to live in unity with them with all the differences.

God is a great God and has allowed many ways to do many different things. The only thing that is only one way is salvation, which is by faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Are you living in unity with other believers? Or are you fighting fellow believers?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will guide you in living for Him; that you will have God’s grace with those who do things differently; and that God will strengthen you to live in unity with others.

Psalm 67:7 Blessings For A Purpose

Tropical sunset sea

May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. Psalm 67:7

People always want good things to happen to them. They want to be successful in what they do. No one wants any trouble or even struggles at all.

When things are going good, they feel that they are blessed. At that point, many feel as if they can relax and enjoy life and do what they want with no fears or worries.

In these types of cases, the blessings are desired for personal gratification. The desires for a blessing are completely selfish and greedy. When this occurs, the purpose of the blessing can be completely missed. Sin begins to reign in the heart of the person.

The author of this psalm talked about people praising God for all the blessings He has already given. Now he prays that God will continue to bless them, but not just to bless them for themselves, but so the world will fear Him.

While blessings help a person out tremendously, they are given for a purpose, and it is for more than just making life easier. Blessings are to be a witness to the rest of the world. They are to allow the world to realize that God is in control and those who follow Him have His hand of favor upon them.

The world believes that a believer in God is weak and living a dead life with no real hope or life. They do not believe in God. Yet, when they see a believer being blessed and pouring that blessing out upon other people, they begin to revere God.

Believers are to take the blessings that God is giving them to help bless others. This is not just blessing other believers, but those in this world. It is to show the world how God loves everyone and is reaching out to them.

You can look at your life and see how God is blessing you in many different ways. Count the number of blessings in your life and be amazed.

Now ask yourself what are you doing with those blessings? Don’t just sit back and enjoy them, but pass them on to others. Allow those blessings to become a witness of God’s great love and control.

Give the world a chance to know who God is because of what He is blessing you with. In this way many can come to know Jesus through your testimony of His blessings.

I pray today that you will know how God is blessing you; that you will see all the blessings God is giving you; that you will share God’s blessings with others in this world; and that you will be a witness of God’s love to this world.
