Matthew 8:26 Why Be Afraid?

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 8:26

Throughout the lifetime of most people there are things that occur that are unexpected. Some of these events will often cause fear in the hearts of people, because they do not what will be the final result. People fear the disaster that may come from the situation. These fears can be based upon physical problems or disasters, or things with the emotions. Either way it is fear of the unknown.

As Jesus and the disciples were in a boat and Jesus was sleeping a great storm came up swamping the boat. The disciples woke Jesus in fear. He got up, calmed the storm and then asked them why they were afraid.

Large storms can be a scary event for many people. Heavy storms that go through an area will often leave a path of destruction and damage. People fear for their lives and can only see extreme damage coming, forgetting who is in control and His great love for them.

Many believers are just like disciples when a storm comes up in their lives, they cry out in fear. While there is nothing wrong with calling out to God for help, it is wrong to call out to God in fear. One must know God’s great love for him and know that God will not allow anything to happen outside of His control that is not what is best for that person.

Believers are willing to believe Jesus for salvation, but are scared for their lives in times of possible disaster. There must be great faith in all things with God. The physical life should not be of so much importance that disasters allow fear and forgetting that God is in control.

As with the disciples, there will be times a great storm arises in your life that will begin to swamp your boat. You have a choice to make. Your two choices are: will you believe and trust God or will you not believe and trust Him.

Keep in mind the times God has already taken care of you and trust Him to continue to do so. One of three things can happen during that storm. One is that you die and go to heaven. Another is that God brings you through it. The last is God calms the storm. Either way you win on God’s side. Trust God.

Today I pray that you will trust God with all of your life; that you will not fear any storm in your life; that you will go to God in faith, not fear; and that you will see God work in every situation in your life for your good.

Matthew 8:26 Why Be Afraid?

“He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” Matthew 8:26

Jesus had just finished preaching and teaching to the crowds of people. He and the disciples got into a boat. Jesus went to sleep. As He was sleeping a large storm comes up and they are in danger of drowning.

The disciples wake Him up in fear. He ask them why they were so afraid. Then He calms the storm.

Most everyone can think of a difficult time in their life in which they were crying out in fear to God.

When you are going through a difficult time it is very difficult to see anything other than the storm going on around them. You feel like you are all alone in the world and that God has left you.

The disciples had felt just like that in the boat. Even though Jesus was there, they felt He didn’t care and that they were all going to die.

Jesus was not worried at all. In fact, remember, He was sleeping. He was calm. He knew exactly what was going on. He had to have felt the boat going up and down, and heard the wind and waves roaring around the boat. Yet, He was sleeping, fully relaxed. Jesus knew God was in control.

As you are going through a difficult time in life you need to have faith that God is in control. God knows exactly what you are going through. If God is not worried, you should not be worried.

If God is truly God in your life, you will allow Him to control everything in your life. This means the good and the “bad” things in your life. What was the worst that could have happened to the disciples? They die.

In reality, death is a good thing. Death removes you from the troubles of this world and ushers you into God’s heaven with Him. As often stated, everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die.

If God wants you to die, there is nothing you can do to stop it. If God wants you to live, there is nothing anything or anyone else can do to stop you from living.

Today trust God and be calm that He is in control. Do not worry or be afraid. Follow Jesus and you will win in the end.

I pray today that God will strengthen you in your struggles; that God will fill you with His peace; that you will have faith that God is in control; and that God will calm the storms in your life.
