3 John 3 Faithfulness

Old Faithful

It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. 3 John 3

Loyalty and faithfulness are some characteristics that are desired in people, but are rarely seen in the world. Going back forty years ago, it was common to hear of a person staying on one job for twenty years or more. He was faithful and loyal to his employer and the employer was faithful to him.

Today employers hire and remove people rapidly, regardless of how long a person has been there. People change jobs constantly. If a person stays on one job for more than five to six years, it has been a long time. People are no longer faithful to their employer.

People treat faithfulness to God in the same way. They do not always remain faithful to Him. One day a person is serving God, being a witness, turning from sin, and showing His love to others, then the next day, he is refusing to be a witness, living in sin, denying God and cursing others. There is no faithfulness in the person.

Many people have walked away from God, when struggles or trials came. They did not remain faithful as God does.

While many have become unfaithful, there are also many who have remained faithful to God. Their lives are a shining light of Jesus in this dark world. They stand out as foreigners in this world. They refuse to partake in the sin of this world. Seeing believers like this can bring great joy to other believers.

When a person is being faithful to God, it will encourage others to be and remain faithful to God. It is showing the truth that God has revealed in his life.

People are watching you every day. They are trying to find out who you really are. While the majority of the world is unfaithful in every area of life, you must remain faithful. Faithful to God and to other people.

Be willing to show and live out the truth that Jesus has revealed.

It brings me great joy to see another believer who is striving to remain faithful to God. It brings even greater joy when others testify to the faithfulness of another believer.

As you live your life, are you being faithful to God and His word?

Or are you living like the world and changing loyalty all the time?

I pray today that you will be faithful to God; that you will know God’s faithfulness to you; that you will be a witness of who Jesus is to this world; and that the world will know you serve God.

Acts 23:11 Testify Again

“The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” Acts 23:11

Paul had been arrested for talking about Jesus in public places. As he was tried, he boldly stated who Jesus was and why he talked about Him. The people were angry with him and so the soldiers took him away to be safe. In the night Jesus came to Paul and told him that he must also testify about Him in Rome. Paul had to go to Rome.

One of the most common questions people ask when going through a tough situation in life is “why?” This is especially true when the person is doing everything right and following God.

Paul had been doing everything right. He had been telling the people about Jesus. But remember that Jesus had told Paul that he had to be a witness to the Gentiles. Jerusalem was not a city of the Gentiles. It was, however, God’s method of getting Paul to Rome where there were more Gentiles who had not heard about Jesus.

God uses many different ways to get you where you need to be in order to be His witness. Sometimes those methods are good, such as getting promoted on a job requiring a move to a new location. This gets you around new people to be His witness.

Other times it can be something disastrous. A major sickness causes you to be in a hospital where you can be a witness of Jesus to those there. A lost job causes you to move to a new job with new people who need to hear about Jesus.

Sometimes, Jesus will use the enemy (the world) to move you to a new location. Paul was sent to Rome as a prisoner. Jesus will use any method needed to get His message spread.

Are you willing to go where Jesus needs you to go? Are you willing to testify again of who Jesus is? Always search for new people to tell Jesus about again and again and again.

I pray today that Jesus will reveal who you are to be His witness to; that you will not fear movement or change; that God will give you His boldness to move forward in spreading the gospel message; and that many people will be drawn to Jesus through you.

John 5:39-40 Where Do You Seek Life?

“You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” John 5:39-40

Jesus is talking about how He and God the Father testifies about who He is. The people also heard John the Baptist testify about who He was. The people had heard about Jesus and seen what He had done, yet were not following Him.

They were studying the Scriptures. They knew all the verses and prophecies. They knew all the rules God had stated. They expected to find life in those Scriptures. They would not come to Jesus for that life they were searching for.

Times have not changed. Many people today will go to church every Sunday, be on the worship team, and study the Bible thoroughly seeking for life and meaning in life. Yet, they will not have a relationship with Jesus, the author of life.

Most people are trying to earn their salvation. They want to be “good enough” for God. They are trying to escape punishment from God.

You will never be good enough for God. You can never earn your salvation. You will never find life outside of Jesus.

Everything that you do must be based off of your belief in the salvation Jesus provided and your relationship with Him. Seek Jesus and you will find life.

Jesus did not come to punish or condemn. He came to give life and that abundantly. He is the mercy and love of God to mankind.

Knowing the Bible inside and out will not give you life. In itself the Scriptures will leave you empty. They point to Jesus and the need for Him. Without Jesus all of the Scriptures become pointless.

Where are you seeking life? In things of this world? In Scriptures and church? In ministry? Or in Jesus?

I pray today that you will see Jesus as the author of life; that you will seek Jesus in every area of your life; that you will seek Jesus in the Scriptures; that God will reveal the life He has for you; and that you will come to Jesus for life.
