Numbers 7:89 Enter In To Speak And Listen To God

When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the Lord spoke to him. Numbers 7:89

Communication is extremely important between two or more people. It is how people can understand each other and allow each other to know what is expected. This is done by talking and listening to each other.

In order to be able to communicate, one must be in the same area or have some means to bring them together, such as a cell phone.

Moses would enter the tent of meeting to hear God speak to him before the ark of the covenant law.

During the time of Moses, it was only Moses and the high priests that could go in before the ark of the covenant to speak and listen to God. If anyone else was to enter that area, he would be killed by God. Jesus tore that veil down, opening the way directly to God.

Since Jesus tore that veil down believers have direct access to God any time of the day or night. However, the believer must be willing to go in before God to speak with Him and listen to Him.

This new place is not a physical place, but a change of heart and mental focus. Instead of physically going somewhere, the believer must now take his focus off of the here and now and focus upon God in prayer.

Taking time to pray is a sacrifice. It means that one must let go of what is immediately trying to capture his attention and placing it upon God alone. The value of doing this is found in hearing God speak and guide the believer in life.

As a believer, you have direct access to God no matter the time of day or night. He is waiting for you to come to Him so that He can talk with you and guide you in how to live this life on earth He has given you.

Do not allow the things and cares of this world get in the way of spending time with God. Enter into the private place of prayer with God. Tell Him what is on your heart and listen to what He has to say.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will regularly spend time in prayer with God; that you will hear God’s voice and direction in your life; and that you will obey God’s commands to you.

Numbers 2:2 God’s House Should Be In The Center

The Israelites are to camp around the tent of meeting some distance from it, each of them under their standard and holding the banners of their family. Numbers 2:2

Most people and businesses have something that they center on or focus on. It is often what gives them meaning and purpose to their life.

Temporary pleasures and things are what most people will focus on. These can be things or even people, such as family. Immediate pleasure is the desire of the world. A few will focus on longer term things, such as retirement and long-term health.

God told the Israelites to set up the camp around the tent of meeting with their standards and banners.

All of the Israelite families were to have their home tents set up around the tent of meeting. The tent of meeting was the tabernacle where God would meet with the priests and Moses. It was the ‘church’ during the Old Testament period of life.

As the world is focused upon the here and now and temporary pleasures, the believer is to focus his entire life upon God and eternity. The things and pleasures of this world will fail and fade away, but God’s kingdom will never end. Life with God will last for eternity.

Although most believers cannot work full time a church and dedicate their entire life to church, every believer can focus on doing the work of God on this earth.

To know the work of God to be done, each and every believer is to spend time with God, both listening and speaking to Him. This can occur regardless of where he is or what time it is.

The believer has become the temple of God, the place where God dwells. His life is camped near the temple of God to meet with God on a continual basis.

As with every person, you have many things that call for your attention each day. Your first focus should always be upon God and what He desires for your life. Center everything that you say, think and do in this life upon what God wants you to say, think or do.

Do not allow yourself to camp out in this fallen world of sin. All the things of this world are temporary and will fail. God will never fail or go away.

What is at the center of your life?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will center your life upon God and His word; that God will give you strength to overcome the temporary pulls of this fallen world; and that the world will see that you serve God with all of your life.

Exodus 27:21 Keep The Lamp Burning

In the tent of meeting, outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance among the Israelites for the generations to come. Exodus 27:21

In major cities there are lights on around the clock, year-round. All the lights are a sign that there is something still happening and available to do. Throughout the day and night there is always someone ready to do nearly anything and everything. The city never sleeps but keeps going.

In the tent of meeting part of the tabernacle, there were to be some lamps that were lit by olive oil. These lamps were to be kept burning throughout the night.

During times when someone is doing something that he loves it is easy to keep going without stopping. However, very often people have to do things that are not as much fun and the desire to stop raises quickly. People want to quit working and just relax and have fun.

Throughout the bible olive oil is often used to represent the Holy Spirit. Believers are to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit to give the strength, direction, and comfort. The Holy Spirit enables a believer to keep going.

Believers are to carry on the work of Jesus and keep going day and night. They are now the light of the world sharing the gospel message. This light is to be lit and kept lit day and night for the world to see.

Some will choose to deny the Holy Spirit’s leading and let that light go out. During those times the believer will often be stepping into sin, outside of God’s will. As this happens the believer no longer is a shining light, but darkness. The lamp needs to be relit.

If you have chosen to believe in and follow Jesus, allow the Holy Spirit to shine through you. Keep the fire of God’s love and mission alive inside of you day and night.

No matter where you go or when you go, there is always someone who needs to hear about Jesus and the salvation He offers. There are also temptations waiting to trip you up and put out that light.

Do not let your lamp burn out, but keep filled with God’s Holy Spirit and keep the light burning bright in this dark world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be filled with God’s Holy Spirit; that you will be a light of God for the world to see; and that you will not quench the Holy Spirit’s fire inside of you.
