Judges 14:9 The Beginning Of A Fall

He scooped out the honey with his hands and ate as he went along. When he rejoined his parents, he gave them some, and they too ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s carcass. Judges 14:9

Going through life people will often come across things that appear to be innocent and good, though they are not. Eating certain things can taste and appear to be good, but later will cause sickness and other health problems.

Choices made will often affect choices in the future, leading a person on a certain path.

Samson had killed a lion and later passed by that same lion. In the lion was some honey, which he chose to take, eat and give some to his parents.

God had given the Israelites a command to never touch the carcass of a dead animal. Samson had chosen to not only touch one, but to also eat food from it. Falling to this temptation would lead him into further temptations leading him away from God for a time.

Believers will often fall for a little temptation that appears to be harmless in and of itself. The temptation does not appear to cause any harm to anyone and brings an immediate pleasure or meets an immediate need.

Falling for any temptation makes it easier for one to fall for more temptations. It is a slow path of walking away from God and His commands.

There was nothing wrong with the honey that Samson ate, except that it was forbidden by God. The world will throw temptations at a believer to get him to sin against God. Believers are to resist all temptation, flee all sin and obey all of God’s commands, whether easy or hard.

The more one resists temptations the easier it becomes and the more he can follow God. Every day you will have temptations to do something little that goes against God’s commands.

Do not allow yourself to grab onto a temptation for a short-term, immediate pleasure that will lead you away from God. Stay off the slippery slope to death that little temptations and strays from God will bring.

Run to God and seek to obey all of His commands for you. Jesus will bring life while temptations will only seek to destroy you. Trust that all of God’s commands are for your good to build you and not destroy you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to temptations that come your way; that God will give you strength to resist any temptations; and that you will obey God’s commands that bring you life.

Joshua 11:5 Joined Forces Against Believers

All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom to fight against Israel. Joshua 11:5

Wars occur on a regular basis all over the world. At times multiple nations will agree to get together to wage war against another nation. The unified front will often give a greater front against the other nation to be able to stop that nation.

Usually when this occurs it is to stop one nation from taking over everyone else. At other times it is to destroy a nation or a group of people that are not wanted.

A group of kings had gathered together to fight against Israel and keep the Israelites from taking the land.

Just as physical wars are occurring around the world, there is also a spiritual war going on. Demonic forces of this fallen world are set on destroying all believers and at any cost.

In some nations these forces are unified as a whole in the nation banning all belief in God. In other nations, such as America, believers have mostly been free to worship and serve God.

Although there has been some freedom, the world is quickly joining forces to rise up against believers. Sin is promoted as good more and more and anyone against sin is considered a hater and wrong. It is no longer just a few against believers, but whole nations.

Every believer must be ready and prepared for spiritual war against his soul. Believers will often be surrounded by those who are against God and His ways. Although the forces of the world are many, the forces of God are greater and more in number with the believer.

No believer needs to be afraid of the enemy knowing that God is for him and will fight the battle for him.

The world is rising up as a unified front against you. They want to get you to sin against God in whatever way possible. The temptations to sin will come from nearly every angle and location around you.

Do not fear those dark forces but put your focus upon God and trust Him. Know that you are on the winning side and God will give you strength to destroy the attacks of the enemy in your life.

Be willing to destroy the temptations to sin that rise up in your life. Do not entertain them or let those temptations live.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to the temptations that come your way; that you will trust God in the battle for your soul; and that God will remove all fear of the enemy.

Revelation 12:17 There Is A War Going On

Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring–those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus. Revelation 12:17

People all over the world are desiring peace and an end to wars. Yet, wars are occurring on a regular basis around the world.

Nations are fighting against nations for control and power. Inside every nation people are fighting against other people for many different reasons. The fighting is occurring from a national level all the way down to inside of homes and families.

John describes a woman, (believed to be the church), being protected from a dragon, (Satan). Since Satan could not get the woman, he goes after her offspring who are all the believers that keep God’s word and their testimony about Jesus.

As the world is focused on various physical wars occurring all over the world, there is a greater war going on that is not always physical. It is a war against believers in Jesus.

Satan has come to steal, kill and destroy everyone and everything he can. He hates anyone who has life, joy and peace and will do anything he can to destroy that person, thus warring against every believer.

This war begins in the mind and will of each person. His ammunition is not physical bullets and bombs, but temptations to sin and doubt. Every sin is a direct disobedience to God’s will. Doubt is a result in not believing the word of God and the work of Jesus in one’s own life.

Knowing that Satan is on a warpath against every believer, it should cause the believer to be aware of it and ready to hold on to what God has said as truth. The believer must also stay focused on obeying every command of God, despite the war waged against him.

You are in a war for your soul from the moment you chose to believe in and follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Neither Satan nor the world likes what you are doing and will do whatever it takes to try and stop you and defeat you.

Do not be surprised when trials and temptations come your way, Satan wants you to lose. Do not give up or give in on your obedience to God and holding onto the promises of God through Jesus.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will make you will be aware of the attacks of the enemy; that you will obey the commands of God; that you will hold on to your testimony about Jesus; and that God will give you victory over the enemy.

1 John 5:5 Are You An Overcomer?

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:5

In the journey of life every person will encounter many different types of obstacles that get in their way. These obstacles can sometimes be very small and easy to get over or around, while others are very large and difficult to overcome.

When the obstacles are large and looming, most people will give up the goal and do something different. A few seriously dedicated people will do whatever it takes to overcome the obstacle, regardless of how large or difficult it is.

John asks who is the one that overcomes the world, then gives the answer. The only ones who can overcome the world is the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

For the believer, the greatest obstacle that he will face in his lifetime is the world. The majority of the world is against those who believe in Jesus, because it goes against what the world thinks and desires. God sets a high standard of living that the world does not want to attain. They want to live as they desire with no restraints.

Resisting temptation to follow the world’s way of living and sin is a challenge for the believer. It starts with believing that Jesus is the Son of God. As the Son of God, there is nothing that Jesus cannot do. He has the power and ability to give the believer strength to overcome any obstacle thrown his way by the world.

The challenge for the believer is to have faith in and believe Jesus for directions on how to overcome the world. Once he has that belief and faith in Jesus, there is nothing that the world can do to cause him to fall or fail, he will be an overcomer.

You will have difficulties and temptations to sin that will come your way every day. The only way to be victorious and overcome all of those challenges is to believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him as the Son of God. Know that Jesus is for you, not against you. He will give you what you need to overcome.

Jesus overcame death, the greatest problem and has the ability to help you overcome anything thrown your way.

Will you fail?

Or will you be an overcomer with Jesus?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the overcoming power Jesus offers you; that you will believe in the power and direction of Jesus; that you will look to Jesus for power to overcome the world; and that God will strengthen you to not fall to the world’s ways and sin.

1 Thessalonians 3:13 A Strong Heart

May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. 1 Thessalonians 3:13

In order for a person to live a good, long and healthy life, he must have a good heart. Having a good heart is achieved by eating and exercising properly.

One has to have the blood flow going through his body with power and strength to live a healthy life. Not doing these things will result in a poor heart, which in turn can cause an early death.

Paul prays that God would strengthen the hearts of the people, so that they will be blameless and holy in God’s presence.

The entire purpose of Jesus coming to the earth and dying upon the cross is to make people holy and blameless before God. It was to take a corrupt, selfish dead heart out of a person and give him a new, living and strong heart for God.

It is in the heart that the desires of a person rise up. Until Jesus works in a person, his heart is weak and falls to temptation to sin. A person’s desires are for selfishness and sin.

Just as with exercising physically will strengthen the heart, exercising one’s faith will also strengthen his heart. Getting on the treadmill of life and refusing to slow down and step into sin will strengthen the heart. Exercising the heart daily with studying God’s word and prayer will strengthen one’s heart and faith.

The strong heart will follow hard after God and refuse to go back to sin. It will be able to say no to the temptations that comes its way, keeping one’s self pure and blameless before God.

Each day you have to make a choice as to whether you will exercise or not. It is your choice to have a strong or weak heart and body. As a believer in Jesus, you must allow God to strengthen your heart to learn to follow after Him more and more.

Allow all of your desires to be the same desires as those of God, rather than for self and sin. God will use His word and time with you in prayer to strengthen your heart so that you will not sin against Him.

How strong is your heart?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to change your heart; that you will seek to do what God desires of you; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you away from all sin; and that you will be pure and blameless before God in all that you say, think or do.
