Philippians 4:1 Stand Firm In The Lord

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends! Philippians 4:1

Everyday fads and fashions come and go. People are always changing what they think is best or good. What is classified as good today, may be looked down upon as horrible tomorrow.

This type of thinking causes very few people to stand firm on what they believe very long. No one wants to stand out as completely different for very long, or they want to always be completely different from everyone else.

After talking about living with no confidence in the flesh, Paul tells the people to stand firm in the Lord.

When a person stands firm, his footing is solid and he cannot be moved or knocked down. The one on a boat that is standing firm, will be able to hold his balance correctly as the boat is rocked back and forth by the winds and waves around it.

Many in this world are trying to say that there are many ways to God or heaven, or that there is no way to God. Along with the ways to God, the world also says that there are no moral absolutes and anything is good with no solid standard.

Believers are held to God’s standard of perfection and holiness. This is not something that is done by themselves, but by the grace and power of God working in and through them. Salvation, holiness and heaven is not attained by the work of a person, but by His faith in Jesus.

As the world and many who have infiltrated the church, attempt to focus on works and self, the believer must stand firm on God’s word and faith in Jesus for his salvation. He must never lose his solid footing with God to the lies and deception of this world.

Your belief in Jesus is what has saved you and removed your sins from your life. Although you must do works to serve God, do not do them to earn salvation.

Do not allow the false teachings of earning salvation to cloud your thoughts and actions. Know what God’s word says and what Jesus has already done for you and stand firm in Lord. Allow God and His word to be your guide, not this fallen world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God expects of you; that you will know the salvation Jesus provides for you; and that you will stand firm in the Lord and not be moved away from God in any way.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Are You Ready For Battle?

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Very few people like the idea of going into a battle. Fewer yet prepare themselves for any type of battle. They sit back believing that they will never have to go into any battle or that the battle will never come to them.

Others are naive or will turn coward and run away fleeing any type of battle. Some will go into battle, but will lack the strength or wisdom in how to fight the battle.

As Paul closes out his first letter to the Corinthian church he gives them some guidelines to live by and be ready for. He tells them to be on their guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous and be strong.

Any soldier who is in a war zone must always be on his guard. He never knows when, where or how the enemy will attempt to attack. He needs to use all of his senses to remain alert.

Every believer is a soldier in God’s army. There is a battle going on for his soul and the all the souls of every other person. All of his senses, along with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, must be used to keep him alert and on guard as to what the enemy is trying to do.

Along with being alert, all throughout the bible believers are told to have faith, be courageous and be strong.

The faith is in God’s word, abilities and strength. The courage is that God is on his side and as long as he does what God leads, he cannot fail. The strength is found in what God gives him the ability to do by His Holy Spirit–to do the impossible.

As a believer, you are enlisted into God’s army and are in the battle for your life and soul. The world does not care about you, nor love you in any way. All the world wants is to see your destruction.

Allow God’s Holy Spirit to open all of your senses to be on your guard for the enemies attacks in your mind, physical and spiritual realms.

Trust and have faith that God will give you what you need in the time of battle. Don’t back down, but go in with the courage and strength of the Lord. With God, all things are possible and God never fails.

Are you ready for battle?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God’s Holy Spirit to keep you alert to the tactics of the enemy; that you will have faith in God’s abilities; that you will have God’s courage to stand and fight the battle; and that you will have God’s strength to continue the battle until it is won.

Matthew 10:21 You Will Be Hated, But Stand Firm

You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:21

Nobody likes to be hated by anyone. Most people will do whatever they can to prevent others from hating them. Being completely different and going against the flow often causes others to hate.

People like things to be easy and to go with the common flow, rather than being different. When someone is different, it often gives the feeling that one is inferior or a failure. It becomes very difficult to go against the common flow.

Jesus warns the disciples that they will be hated because of Him. Yet He tells them to stand firm and be saved in the end.

Following Jesus is not popular with the majority of people throughout the world. In following Jesus, one must be willing to change his ways of thinking and acting. He has to choose to leave all sin behind and walk a different path that has eternity, not the temporary, in mind.

When a person is truly following Jesus with all of his abilities, many in the world, including the church, will hate him. The follower of Jesus is set apart as different because he is not just focused on today, but upon eternity. He is willing to reject sin and take a stand against it.

Following Jesus brings light to the world and exposes sin and darkness that most do not want to acknowledge. People will hate anyone who exposes this darkness in their life. They want to live in the moment and will hate the believer.

Although standing against the flow of this fallen world will bring hatred, it will result in salvation for all eternity, not just a temporary pleasure. It takes a strong stand to stand against the sin of this world.

As a believer, people will hate you. It is not you they are hating so much, as it is they are hating Jesus and what He stands for.

If people are not hating you for following Jesus, you may want to ask yourself if you are truly following Jesus with all of your abilities. Jesus was hated by many while He walked on the earth and you are to be no different.

Even though people may hate you, do not give up. Stand strong in your following Jesus so that in the end you will receive eternal life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will stand as a light of Jesus in this world; that you will not fear the hatred of people; that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; and that you will stand strong and true for God until the end.
