Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” Mark 3:11
It was common for Jesus to go around healing people. As He would do this, many people would come around Him and crowd Him. They wanted to see what was happening or to be healed. The impure spirits would fall before Him and cry out who He really was.
Jesus was an unusual mystery to most of the people. They had never seen someone going around and healing like Jesus did. Not only did He do continual healing, but He also had power over the demons.
While many people accepted what Jesus was saying and doing, there were some who would go around condemning Him. All they could see was a regular man who grew up as a carpenter. He looked just like any other person around at the time.
Yet, Jesus was not just another regular man. He was God’s Son. Jesus had the power and authority that God had and He was using it on this earth. He spoke with God’s authority whenever He spoke. While many people saw this, there were many others who did not.
Times have not changed anything. Talk about Jesus happens all the time, especially around Easter and Christmas. People talk about who He really was. Most accept that He really did exist, but few accept that He is the Son of God. Many do not like to think about the spiritual realm of life.
While people refuse to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, there are demons who fall down before Him acknowledging who He is. The demonic world knows who Jesus is and the power and authority that He has. There is no doubt in their minds.
You, as a believer, must decide who you see Jesus as. Was He just a good prophet? Or just a good teacher? Was He just a man?
Or is He someone more?
When you realize who Jesus is–the Son of God–you will be like the demons in that you will fall down before Him. You will give Him full authority over your life. You will honor Him for who He really is.
Jesus is either just an ordinary man. Or He is the Son of God.
Jesus is either your Savior. Or He will be your judge.
Do you know Jesus?
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the power Jesus has; that you will know the authority Jesus has; and that you will live for Jesus.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:15
After having been in public ministry for a while, Jesus asks the disciples who the people think He is. They give the answers of different prophets of the Old Testament. Then Jesus asks them directly who they think He is.
The question of who Jesus is or was is still being asked to this day. Every year around Christmas and Easter, the news media is flooded with questions and answers on who Jesus was. The impact Jesus had on this world is still affecting people to this day.
There are very few people in the world today who deny that Jesus actually lived and died on this earth. The evidence of His existence is too great for any rational person to deny that He was a person. The question though that needs to be asked is not if He existed, but who was He?
People have not really changed their answer since the days Jesus asked the disciples that question. Although people today do not claim that He was one of the Old Testament prophets, many still look at Him as just a prophet or a teacher. Millions of Muslims will see Jesus as a great prophet. Millions of Buddhists will see Him as a great teacher. While both are right in that He was a great prophet and teacher, He was more than that.
Peter saw Jesus as the Messiah, Savior, Son of God. This was a lot more than just a prophet or teacher. This could also not be seen by just looking at Jesus. Looking at Jesus, He was just a regular man, just like everyone else. Looking with the eyes of God into the spiritual realm, revealed that Jesus was much more, He was God’s Son, the Savior.
As you read this, think about who you say Jesus is. Who is He really to you?
You cannot rely on the answers of other people, your parents, friends, or church. You need to have your own answer.
Read the Bible and see what it reveals about who Jesus is. Once you have made your decision, you must be willing to let others know also.
If you are truly open to what the Bible says, you will also be like Peter and realize that Jesus was much more than just another man.
Who do you say Jesus is?
I pray today that God will reveal who Jesus is to you; that you will know for yourself who Jesus is; that you will have a personal relationship with Jesus; and that you will share with the world who Jesus is.
“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12
Everyone wants to have life. Most people think that having life is having things. The world tries to tell you if you have the newest gadget, or the the newest trend of clothing, or if you attend the greatest parties, or know a certain person you have life.
Watch the advertisements on TV. Every one of them shows people enjoying life because of the product being sold. Life according to the world is about status and things.
The problem with all the things that the world sees as giving life is that all these things are temporary. Yes, they will give you some life for today, but in the end you will die and cannot take any of those things with you.
Only in Jesus can you really have life. Jesus had said that He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the One who created everything you see. He is the One who created life. He is the One who sustains everything.
Jesus came to this earth to give you life and that life abundantly. This type of life is not found in things. It is found in the relationship with God and others. Jesus brings a life that will last for all eternity.
Life with Jesus will bring joy and fulfillment. You were created to serve and worship God. The burden that you have to carry for God is light. Imagine carrying on the sins of the entire world. All the troubles you go through for God is light compared to that.
In Christ Jesus you have a family that is larger and more true than any the world can give you. The world’s life cannot give you anything lasting and true.
Today you need to accept Jesus to have His life. Turn from your sins, accept His forgiveness and follow Him. Receive the life He is giving you. Do not look to the false life the world tries to give. Do not be deceived in believing the lies of this world.
If you already have Jesus, renew your belief in Him. Renew your commitment to follow Him. Seek Him for the life He has for you. Live the life God has for you today.
I pray today that God will reveal to you the life He has for you; that God will help you turn from the false life of this world; that you will renew your commitment to Jesus; that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; and that you will have life and life abundantly.
“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:5
In this world there is a great competition to be the best, the greatest, to win. Most people want to have more than what they already have. In order to get more, they have to get more money or more influence on others.
Businesses are always trying to outsell their competitors. Advertisements always state that their product is the best. The pendulum of which product sells most is constantly swinging back and forth.
Along with businesses, there are countries constantly striving to be the best or to conquer others. Wars are constantly happening between countries and within countries. Everyone wants to overcome.
Behind all of this competition is Satan. He is trying to win all of the world to himself. He does not want anyone to follow God.
Satan will use whatever methods he can to win you over. Lies and deception are his advertisements. Persecution and ridicule are his wars. Some of these will be physical, while others will be just in the mind.
Every believer is in a war. This war is with Satan and sin. The world follows Satan and his ways, thus, the world is also at war with the believer.
John tells you that the only one who can overcome the world is the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God. This believing in Jesus is stating that He is God and the Savior, He is the only one in absolute control.
Just a few verses before this, John tells you that the person who believes Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and the one born of God will obey His commands.
Believing in Jesus is stating that God is telling the truth. Jesus had overcome the greatest enemy of all mankind…death. If He can overcome death, there is nothing He cannot conquer. Since He has overcome death, He can give you the power to overcome everything, including death.
As Satan is throwing temptations and troubles your way, look to Jesus for strength and guidance. Believe in the words of Jesus that He has overcome the world. Do not look at Jesus as just some great teacher or prophet, but as the Son of God who is in control.
Do not allow Satan to get to you. Put on the shield of faith to protect you. In Christ Jesus you will be able to say no to temptations. You will be able to accept troubles coming your way. In the end you will be on the winning side with Jesus as both Jesus and you overcome the world and it’s ways.
I pray that today God will help your belief in Jesus to be strengthened; that God will strengthen you to overcome the world and it’s ways; that God will give you victory over sin and temptation; and that God will use you today to strengthen another believer.
