Proverbs 5:23 No Discipline Equals Death

Karate stance

For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly. Proverbs 5:23

Discipline is the ability to make oneself do the right thing or to choose to not do something wrong, regardless of how hard that decision is. Athletes discipline themselves to work out and practice long and hard in their skill to improve and become better. They push the hardships of the hard work aside to improve.

Many in the world do a great job at disciplining themselves to do a sport, but often will not choose to discipline themselves in other areas of life that are not good.

There is no discipline used to hold oneself from living in sinful ways. Choices to commit and live in adultery, homosexuality, or some other deviant lifestyle are common. Each of these and many more ways are ways that lead to death. Sinful lifestyles are accepted as normal and promoted.

Solomon realizes that lack of discipline will bring about death. People are led down wrong paths by their own folly.

The believer must choose to live for God and according to His ways and commands. It takes focus and discipline to live for God.

Yet, there are many in the church who have chosen to put discipline aside and follow the ways of the world. Men lust after other women or men who are not their wives. Women lust after men and women who are not their husbands.

Sin is embraced and accepted as the world accepts it.

True discipline will choose to not walk down sinful paths. This is not down out of legalistic beliefs, but out of love for God for what He has done for each person. Jesus died to remove sin and the death sentence of sin upon a person.

Walking in sin puts that death sentence back into place. It is foolishness to choose to die.

Each day you will have choices to make. You can either look into and follow sinful ways, or you may turn away from all sin and follow God’s holy and righteous ways of living.

God wants you to have an abundant life. Living in sin may be abundant for a short season, but in the end it will bring about death.

Discipline yourself, train yourself to stay focused upon God and His ways. Train yourself to choose to obey God’s commands and not live in sin.

Embrace the life God has for you, not the death the world offers.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that God will guide you into His ways of living; that God will give you strength to walk in His ways; that you will keep your eyes focused upon God; and  that you will have discipline to obey God.

Joshua 2:8-9 The World Will Be Afraid

Afraid

Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof and said to them, “I know that the LORD has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.” Joshua 2:8-9

Joshua had sent some men into Jericho to spy out the city in order to take it over. They stayed with Rahab, a prostitute, who protects them. She tells them that everyone in the city has heard of the Israelites and that God is with them. Everyone was living in fear of the Israelites.

The people had reason to fear the Israelites. Word had been brought to them of the various battles that they had been in and won. Defeating Egypt and several other large nations and kings, they were a force to be reckoned with and feared.

In today’s society, Christians are also feared as the Israelites were. The world does not always understand or give the same reason, but they fear believers. It is very common for believers to be accused of hate crimes, because they are taking a stand against sinful acts that the world wants everyone to accept.

Judgments are brought against individual believers or churches, because they refuse to accept or participate in a sinful act.

These actions by the world, though seen as persecution (and it is), is also done out of fear. They fear that Christians will cause them to change their ways and beliefs, that they will no longer be able to live as they want to live. It is a threat against their lifestyle.

The world feared Jesus also, even though He never did anything harmful. Jesus just lived for God and did what God told Him to do.

When you are fully living for God, the world will begin to fear you. As they fear you, there will be some who fight back and bring on persecution. Others will try to bring judgments against you.

Do not be afraid of the world, but stand strong and true to God’s word. God is with you and will not leave you. God, who is in you, is stronger than the world. The world does have a reason to fear, God will change their lifestyle.

Be willing to be a witness of Jesus to this world. Be willing to change this world for God.

Does the world fear you? Or are you on their side?

I pray today that you will live your life for God; that you will be a witness to this world; that the world will see Jesus in you; and that God will remove fear of this world from you.

When A Nation Forgets God

Title: When A Nation Forgets God
Author: Erwin W. Lutzer
Publisher: Moody Publishers
Date: 2010
Pages: 160

Erwin Lutzer looks at seven different lessons that people can learn from Nazi Germany on when a nation forgets God. He looks at how Hitler won the favor of the churches in Germany in order to gain control of the nation.

Hitler had used kind, favorable words to win their support. Once he had their support, he changed some rules that removed the authority of the churches and was able to get them shut down.

Using propaganda and education the people of Germany were slowly numbed to the changes that Hitler was striving to bring about. Most of the Germans would not have accepted the torture and killing that was going on, but due to the change of words and the picture given, it was made acceptable.

A lot of the same things have happened in America. He points out that thirty years ago homosexuality was scorned and hated. Through the media of television, movies, and music it was portrayed first as a funny or crazy thing, but it numbed the people to it. Today it is now widely accepted, even inside the church.

Along with that are the topics of abortion, evolution, drugs and many other areas. The people of the church are being numbed to the sin of these acts and are starting to accept them as good.

The author points out that every believer must keep their focus on God and what He wants. They must remain well grounded in the Bible to be aware of the schemes of the enemy. Satan will strive to get believers to take their eyes off of Jesus and be numbed to what he is really doing.

He is not a doomsday prophet in any way, but does present a picture that the church is allowing the enemy to take over. They are accepting the lies from the enemy.

This is a short but easy to read book. I would highly recommend every believer to read it and see what God has for them. You should pray and seek God in what He wants you to do. Seek God for spiritual eyes that will see the deception that is being presented everywhere around. Do not allow yourself to be deceived.
