Matthew 5:14 Light Of The World

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

Light is something that shines in the darkness. The purpose for having light is to show or reveal things or a path. It helps to prevent stumbling that can occur in the dark. It can also make something stand out as important or of value.

While most places like to be well lit, there are many places that remain poorly lit on purpose. In these places the world wants it kept secret what is going on or they want to ignore what is happening.

Jesus told the people that they are the light of the world, like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.

There are many believers who believe that their belief is a private personal thing. They keep it to themselves. A wall is created between their life with God and their life in this world. The knowledge of who Jesus is kept to themselves, keeping the world in the dark.

Living like this is not what Jesus wanted or expected. He wants believers to be the light of the world. Every believer is to be a shining, bright beacon of light in this dark world, revealing Jesus and God’s word.

The world may not like the light because it reveals sin and the dark heart, but it is what can also reveal God’s great love and mercy. Light brings life to this world and each believer has the light of eternal life, not just temporary pleasures.

Believers should be living their life in such a way that no one cannot not know that they are a believer, because of the great light that they are shining. This light is shining bright to show the path to God and true life for eternity.

You have an opportunity every day to reveal who God is in your life. Do not allow yourself to keep Jesus hidden in secret behind closed doors of your heart and mind. Let Jesus shine in everything that you say and do. Do not let there be any doubt in anyone’s mind that you are a follower of Jesus.

As you shine Jesus, many will come to know Jesus. Darkness and sin will have to flee, both in your life and in the lives of others. God’s kingdom will be built up as you are a light in this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will shine Jesus in this world; that you will allow God’s light and life to shine brightly through you; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to others.

Daniel 12:3 Shine Like The Stars

Starry sky

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3

It is very common for most people to want to shine. They want to look great before others. People want their hard work recognized and exalted by others.

Many people want to be the best at what they do and receive the honors to go with it. Singers want the number one recording. Actors want to gain the Oscar. The sports player wants the player of the year award. Having these things makes a person shine brightly and will be remembered longer.

As Daniel closes out his book, he is given a vision of the very end of time on this earth. In the end there will be a time of judgement. Those who are wise will shine forever and ever.

In another location in the bible it states that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Doing what God wants is the greatest wisdom that a person can possess. It goes beyond any wisdom that this world can offer, because it is eternal.

The greatest work that a person can do for God is to lead other people to righteousness…to Jesus…to God. Doing that was the entire goal of Jesus when He walked upon the earth and He passed that mission on to every believer.

There are many believers who have taken the step to live for God, but are not moving forward in being wise and leading others to God. They are not striving to be a witness of who Jesus is to this fallen world. This is not true wisdom, nor love of God. It is selfishness to live for self and gain life for one’s own self. He must work to build God’s kingdom.

As a believer you must ask yourself if you are being wise. It is wise to believe in Jesus, but it does not end there. Believing in Jesus will also mean that you will do what He desires.

Jesus wants you to be His witness and point the lost and dying to Him. He wants you to train others up in the ways of God, the ways of righteousness and holiness. To do anything less, is to not fully love God or others.

When you are being His witness and building His kingdom, you will shine like the stars for all eternity.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s heart for other people; that you will be wise in God’s ways; that you will carry out God’s mission for you on this earth; and that you will shine for God in this dark world.

Song Of Solomon 6:10 A Shining Light

Bright stars over trees

Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession? Song of Solomon 6:10

Some people stand out as different, often better than others in some way. When they stand out in some way it is usually because they are better in some field than most people.

Actors are often listed as stars when their acting abilities stand out above everyone else. They are given lead roles because of their great abilities. They are shining in a way that most people do not shine.

The friends in Solomon’s story are wondering who it is that is shining so brightly. This person is appearing as bright as the sun.

When Jesus came into this world, He was called the light of the world. He would shine for a light that was brighter than anything that has ever shown before. His light would shine the truth.

In this sinfully dark world, His light would shine very bright. It would expose sin and reveal God’s great love. Any one who saw it would know that it was different.

Those who are blind are in complete darkness and light has no meaning. They cannot see the sun and its magnificent light because of their blindness. Those who cannot see the truth of Jesus as those who are spiritually blind. They will be blinded by the brightness of His light and refuse to see what is before them.

Anyone who sees the light of Jesus are changed into a new person. They, then, become a shining light also in this dark world. They are shining the light of Jesus and His truth in this dark world.

Believers in Jesus are to be a shining light as to who Jesus is and what He has done.

You, as a believer in Jesus, have seen His light at some point in your life. You are aware of His truth, truth of his love, His grace, His mercy, His forgiveness and His gift of eternal life.

Knowing these things, be a light in this world. Point everyone to Jesus the true shining light in this dark world. Let them know about the life He is giving away freely.

As you shine His light in and through your life, people will ask about that light. They will want to know who it is that is so bright and why He is so bright.

Is His light shining in your life today?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the light Jesus shines in your life; that you will shine forth His light to others; and that people will see the light of Jesus in you.
