Galatians 2:12 Changing To Please

For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. Galatians 2:12

Appearance plays an important part of the lives of many people. People will say and do things to appear to agree with those around them, even if it goes against their own personal beliefs.

This double-standard of living is being done to prevent losing of friends or acceptance. They want to please certain people, at all costs.

Paul talks of a man who had been willing to eat with uncircumcised believers until some circumcised believers came around. Then they changed their attitude towards the uncircumcised.

Many believers will claim and believe certain things while they are in church and among like believers. As soon as someone comes along of a different view, they will drop what they believe and act the new way. Instead of loving everyone and remaining the same, they change.

This type of double-standard is often seen in members of churches and it pushes many people away from the church. It is seen as hypocrisy. Jesus loved everyone, but never changed Himself to their level of living. He was holy and perfect, regardless of what others said or did.

Every believer must live their life as Jesus lived His life. They must be the same, regardless of whom they are around. Changes should never be made to just fit in and please some.

There will always be some people who will not agree with a way of living. When a person continues to change to be accepted, he will no longer live by any standard. He will neither be hot or cold towards God, and will be spit out by God.

As a believer, you will have times that there will be some who believe or act differently than you. Do not allow yourself to be persuaded to keep changing how you live for God.

Know what God has shown you in His scriptures and live that way. Do not become hypocritical and change your ways just to please others.

Live your life for God, not for man. Let God’s light shine in and through you to a dark world. Be among the world, but not of the world and its corrupt ways.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know how God wants you to live; that you will live for God among all people; that you will not change your ways just to please people; and that you will be witness of who Jesus is.

Romans 12:2 Transform, Not Conform

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

One of the most common thoughts that the media wants people to believe is for people to conform. The world wants everyone to be alike, so that no one is left out. The world also wants everyone to accept everyone just as they are and never to expect change.

The mindset of the world is that with unity there will be peace. Everyone can live as each one desires.

After showing how God grafted any who believe into His family, Paul points out what to do with that information. He says to not conform to the ways of this world, but be transformed in the mind to know God’s will.

Every believer was in the world at one point in his life. He lived and thought as the world did, living in and promoting sin. At some point every believer has chosen to become a believer in Jesus and accept what He did for him.

It is at this point that the believer must begin to change his ways and thoughts. Many in the church have not taken this step and have stayed in the world, while claiming to believe in Jesus. They continue to purposefully live in sinful ways, refusing to change.

These actions are due to their refuse to transform their thinking to the ways of God. They want to hold on to the past sin, rather than give it up.

Every believer needs to allow God to transform his mind, changing his ways and thinking. Doing this gives the believer strength to live for God and to turn away from sin. It breaks the desire to sin.

Each and every day you have choices to make as to whether you will live for God or live for this world. If you allow the world to influence you and control your thinking, you will live for the world, rejecting what Jesus has done for you.

Choose to live for God. Fill your mind with God’s word and His ways of thinking, acting and speaking. Allow God to transform you into a new creation, giving up the past sins and sinful ways of thinking and acting. Do what God has called you to do and be.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to change your mind; that you will turn from the world towards God; that you will know God’s will for your life; and that you will live your life for God.

John 15:19 Are You Loved Or Hated?

If you belong to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. John 15:19

People love to be loved. No one likes someone to hate them. In order for people to get that love, most people will do whatever it takes to please others.

When a person is hated, he often feels left out or separated from others. He will often look at himself and try to figure out what he is doing wrong to be hated and change.

Jesus pointed out to His followers that the world hates them because He had chosen them out of the world.

Although the world appeared to love Jesus for a short time, they quickly began to hate Him. The world hates Jesus because He sets a high standard of holy living. This standard goes against the world’s way of living.

Every believer, who is truly living for God, will be hated by the world as a whole. Those who are living mediocre lives for God, will be loved by the world. They live in sinful ways and accept others to live in sinful ways. They are not separate, set a part from the world.

Followers of Jesus will call sin for what it is…sin and will not compromise their standards. The world does not like that type of talk or living, it makes them feel uncomfortable.

As soon as the world begins to love a believer, one must begin to question his walk with God. How is it that the world loves him, when the world hates Jesus? This can be a test strip for how much a person is loving and serving God or serving self and the world.

Take not as to how much the world, those who refuse to believe in Jesus, loves you. Ask yourself how much you are being a witness to them of who Jesus is.

If you are living for God and speaking His words, the world is going to hate you. The only ones who will not hate you are those who choose to follow Jesus.

Your primary job is to be a witness to the world, not to be loved by the world. Do not turn away from being that witness, just because some, or many, do not love you.

Are you loved or hated by the world?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will strengthen you to be separate from the world; that you will know God’s love; that you will live a holy life before God and the world; and that you will be a witness for Jesus.

Exodus 33:16 Standing Out As Different

different light bulb

“How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:16

Standing out as different is something that the majority of people do not like to do. They want to blend in with everyone. Standing out causes one to be seen by everyone, they are on center stage in the spotlight.

Often standing out means that a person is going against the flow. They are being different and rebellious. There is a small group of this world that thrives on being different. Currently the world tells people to be themselves, regardless of what that looks like to the rest of the world.

Yet, when some people stand out as different, they are treated differently. They are not always accepted.

As Moses was leading the people in the desert, he knew that they had to be different from the world. In order to be seen as different, they needed God’s presence to be with them. God’s presence would set them apart from the rest of the world following idols, dead gods. Moses pleaded with God for His presence to be with them.

Having God’s presence in one’s life has not changed how it looks since Moses. It sets the person apart from the rest of the world. The believer is different from the world.

People will see that a believer, who is walking in God’s presence, is different from them. The believer will walk, talk, and act differently than the rest of the world. He will walk in love, mercy, forgiveness, grace, and holiness, because God’s presence is in him, guiding him and leading him.

Too often believers look like the world. They act like the world and God’s presence is not with them. They are doing their own thing, not God’s. They are no longer distinguished from the world.

As a believer, your life should be different than that of the world. You should be distinguished with God’s  presence. You should be standing out as a shining light for the world to see.

When people look at your life, what are they seeing? Are they seeing someone just like them, like the world, not different or set apart?

Or are they seeing someone who has God’s presence in his life?

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will not move without God’s presence and guidance; that you will be separated from the world unto God; that you will stand out for all the world to see Jesus in your life; and that the world will know God is with you.

Revelation 18:4 Get Out

Man walking in snow

Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; Revelation 18:4

God was getting ready to destroy Babylon for the sins that the city had done. Babylon is a representation of the evil in this world and that God would destroy in the end. As He is getting ready to destroy the city, there is a voice that calls for the people to leave. The purpose of leaving was to keep from sharing in their sins or the destruction that was coming.

The world is full of places that are like Babylon. There is sin found every where a person goes. There is not a place a person can go that does not have some sin. And in many of these places sin is not only done, but is also promoted and honored.

When a person is among all of the sin of this world, it is easy to get caught up in it and begin to practice the sin. It can be seen among many ‘believers’ and churches, the mindset of the sinful world in them. Acceptance of sin is becoming more common.

Believers are to get out of those places to keep from sharing in their sin. They must separate themselves from the sin of this world.

Jesus has removed the sin in the life of one who has begun to follow Him. Since this is done, one must not go back to those sins. Living in this world will cause a person to be around sin, but they must keep from taking up those sins. They are to live a holy life, separate from all sin. They are to be a shining light of Jesus to this dark and sinful world.

As a believer you must get out of the  sinful ways of this world. Come out of the old ways of living and step into the new life Christ has given you. In doing this, you will not share in their sins or the punishment that will come upon them. You will also be a witness to them of who Jesus is and what He is like.

Do not allow the sins of this world to overcome you. Be a part of God’s family, holy and separate as you wait for the return of Jesus.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will step out of sin to follow God; that you will not get caught up in the ways of this world; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.
