John 1:29 Recognizing Jesus

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

Every day as people walk through stores or other businesses, they can recognize friends that they see. Sometimes they will be excited to see each other, but most times they are just glad and visit for a moment, then move on.

When someone sees someone who is famous, they will get excited and want to tell everyone about the famous person. For years they will continue to talk about seeing or meeting a famous person.

As John was baptizing people, Jesus came walking up to him. John quickly tells everyone that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Jesus is someone who is known about by many people around the world. However, very few actually know who Jesus is, they only know about Him.

The world will talk about Jesus as being a good person or a great teacher. Many will acknowledge that He actually did exist and was a man who walked upon the earth for a time.

However, their recognition of Him usually stops right there. All they see Him as is just a man, like everyone else.

Those who have chosen to allow their spiritual eyes to be opened and really see, will recognize Jesus for who He is. They will know that He is the One who takes away sin. Jesus is not just a good man or a good teacher, but the Savior.

Alongside with recognizing who Jesus really is, true believers will also be willing to tell others who He is. They will get excited at pointing people to Jesus as the Savior who takes away all sin.

You must be willing to ask yourself who Jesus is to you. Are you seeing Him as the world sees Him, just a man or a teacher? Or is He the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world?

If you do not know the answer to those questions, you must read the Bible and see who it says He is. Seek God to have your spiritual eyes opened to the truth of who Jesus is.

If you know who Jesus truly is, then you must be willing to tell the world who He is. Do not be silent, but be excited in seeing Jesus and let everyone know.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow Jesus to remove the sins in your life; that your spiritual eyes will be open to seeing Jesus; that you will be excited to see Jesus; and that you will point the world to Jesus.

John 21:4 Not Recognizing Jesus

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. John 21:4

When a person is very close to another person, he will be able to easily recognize him. However, when a person is farther away, it is more difficult to recognize the other one.

The more one spends time together with a person, the more he will recognize him at a distance or in a crowd. Every person has certain characteristics that stand out, that make him different from every one else. Only by close association can a person really know those differences.

After Jesus had died, the disciples had went back to fishing, their old trade. As they were out trying to fish, Jesus stood on the shore, but they did not recognize Him, even when He spoke to them.

The world does not recognize God or His voice. They are focused on themselves and the temporary things of this world. God could be right in front of them doing works, but they would not see Him, calling the events coincidence. Often many believers are living in the same way as the world is living.

They are so busy focusing on living in this world or in doing ministry, that they do not recognize when God is standing right in front of them doing something. They are not taking the time to grow closer to God, but to work on the things of this world.

The best way for a believer to be able to recognize God is to spend time with Him. This is taking time to know who He is and what He is doing by taking time to pray and study His word. People often choose to not take the time to spend with God in both prayer and His word.

God is always working in your life. Take a moment to look at your life. Do you see Jesus? Can you recognize His hand at work in your life?

If you cannot recognize Him working, you must shift your focus back to Him. Instead of going back to your old ways of doing things or focusing on just the temporary things, focus on God.

Spend time daily with God in both His word and in prayer. Begin to recognize God and His hand at work in your life. Realize that God is always with you at work.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will spend time in prayer and God’s word; that you will recognize God working in your life and this world; and that you will point people to Jesus.

Luke 19:3-4 How Bad Do You Want To See Jesus?

He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. Luke 19:3-4

People will often go to extreme measures to see someone who is famous. Some will pay hundreds to thousands of dollars to go to a concert of some singer, only to see them from a long way off in a large crowd. Others will do some crazy stunt to get the attention of the famous person.

As Jesus was passing through a town, Zaccheus wanted to see Him. In order to see Jesus, he climbed up a tree.

Zaccheus did not allow his pride or position to stop him from seeing Jesus. He was willing to do whatever it took to see Him.

There are many believers that state that they want to see Jesus and spend time with Him, but they are unwilling to do what it takes to make it happen. They want Jesus to just come to them in some special way, with no change or effort on their part.

Jesus calls people to Him, He does not always go to them. They have to make the step towards Him as He is walking by.

In order to make a step towards Jesus, it will often mean doing something different. One may have to step away from the world and its ways to see Him. The world will think the believer is crazy and doing something insane. It goes against the way of the world.

However, as soon as a person steps out to see Jesus, He will look and step towards him. Jesus wants and deeply desires to spend time with each and every person. Yet many will not do what it takes to get that time together.

As a believer you will have some desire to see Jesus and be with Him. You may find crowds of things and events in your way, trying to keep you from Him. You may see others up close to Jesus where you want to be.

Choices have to be made. You will need to step out and do something different than the rest of the world to see Jesus. It is putting sin and pride of this world to the side to get into a position to see Jesus.

What are you willing to do to see Jesus?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will put the world and sin aside to be with Jesus; that God will help you overcome pride to be with Him; and that God will reveal more of Himself to you.

Luke 19:4 What Are You Willing To Do?

Running Ahead.jpg

So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. Luke 19:4

As Jesus was going through the town of Jericho, Zacchaeus wanted to see Him. The crowds were very large and he was a small man, so he was unable to see Jesus. He ran ahead of where Jesus was walking and climbed a sycamore tree, so he could get above the crowds and see Jesus.

Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector for that area. He was very well-known and very wealthy. Yet, that did not stop him from doing what it took to see Jesus for himself. He had left behind his pride and ways of doing things as a wealthy, important person to see Jesus.

Most adult men, and especially those who are wealthy and important, do not climb up trees to see someone. And even more a tree that is slippery and not very easy to climb. Men of high importance would just state their position and tell people that they need to move. Or they would get the authorities and connections they have involved to move them to the front.

Zacchaeus did none of those things, but humbled himself and climbed the tree himself. This action did catch the attention of Jesus, because as Jesus passed by He called Zacchaeus down and went to his house.

There may be times when you go to church or are talking to friends and you hear or see that Jesus is among them. You look at your own life and cannot seem to see Jesus because of the crowd of things in your life. These things can be fears, worries, troubles or more.

At this point you have to make a choice. Do you just give up and ignore that Jesus is in the area, but you will not be allowed to see or experience Him?

Or do you pursue Him with all that is in you?

Pursuing Jesus may mean that you have to humble yourself and do something different. You may have to run ahead of the crowd and do something that is different to get His attention.

In order to see Jesus, you have to get above the crowds. You have to get above all the crowd of bad thoughts, worries, problems, fears, pain, and rejection.

As you seek Him, Jesus will come to you and eat with you.

What are you willing to do to see Jesus?

I pray today that you will see Jesus; that you will not be afraid to do something to see Jesus; that you will hear Jesus call out to you; and that you will have a new relationship with Jesus.

Numbers 24:17 Seeing Jesus

“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth. Numbers 24:17

After blessing the Israelites three times, while Balak wanted him to curse them, Balaam starts to prophesy what he sees coming in the future. One of the things he sees and realizes it is a long way off is someone rising up to rule in Israel that will destroy all their enemies. That person is Jesus. Several thousand years later Jesus comes to rule and destroy all sin and the enemy.

At the time the Israelites were traveling in the wilderness, they did not look like very much, other than a lot of people. They really did not have a lot of battle experience yet, and had never been their own nation in their own land. They were just wandering in the desert. Yet, out of them would rise up a ruler who would be able to destroy all the enemies.

Jesus is still that ruler to this day. He is the one who is in control. Right now many people cannot see Him, yet He is still there. As a believer you must see Jesus for who He is and what He can and will do.

Jesus is the One who can save you from your sins. He is the One who will return and destroy all the enemies. Right now it may look like a long way off. He is not completely destroying the enemy right now. It may appear that He is not even in control right now.

Just as Balaam saw the future by faith, you must also see the future with Jesus by faith. You must trust that He will win in the end and that you will win if  you are on His side.

When things are looking hopeless and lost in the desert of this life, focus on Jesus reigning in the future. See Jesus coming again in power and glory to reign forever and forever.

Also see Him by your side right now. Jesus said He would never leave you or forsake you.

Can you see Jesus today?

Can you see Jesus in your future?

I pray today that God will give you a new vision of Jesus; that you will know that Jesus is by your side; that you will know that Jesus will reign in the future; and that your hope will be in Jesus.
