Judges 16:20 Losing God’s Presence

Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. Judges 16:20

In living life many people do things so routinely that they do not always recognize what is going on around them. Disaster can occur right next to one, but he does not see it because his focus is upon himself and what he needs to do.

It is in times like these that accidents occur, because of a loss of attention to the details.

Delilah had deceived Samson in revealing the source of his strength, then cut his hair and betrayed him to the Philistines while he was asleep. When he awoke, he did not realize God had left him and he was captured.

God’s Spirit and favor are with a believer when the believer is following Him and obeying Him. Although God never leaves a person, He will pull His Spirit back when the person chooses to walk in sin and disobey Him.

This is mainly done through the person not being willing to see or hear what God is saying or doing due to sin in his life. His focus is upon self and the world, rather than God and His kingdom. One may run out ahead of God and leave God behind.

As this occurs, disaster occurs in the person’s life. If the sin is not dealt with, the person begins to fall farther away from God and closer to the world. He becomes numb to God’s Spirit striving to move in his life, until he no longer recognizes that he is no longer with God.

Every believer must stay focused upon God and what He is saying and doing every day and never let sin reign in his life.

As a believer God is with you and wants to lead and guide you through this life. Do not allow sin or the things of this world to distract you from following God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.

From the moment you get up in the morning until you go to bed at night, seek to know God’s presence in your life. Be aware when you have strayed away from God’s presence and guidance. Run back to God and stay on His path for your life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will seek to follow God with all of your being; that you will not allow sin to separate you from God’s presence; and that God will never have to lift His hand of favor from your life.

Judges 15:19 God Opens Up Provision

Then God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When Samson drank, his strength returned and he revived. So the spring was called En Hakkore, and it is still there in Lehi. Judges 15:19

During hot summers people who are working outside will get extremely thirsty. As this occurs, their strength will often drop, and they will be very weak and in need of water.

The longer it takes to get the needed water, the more desperate one will be bringing on the feeling that he is going to die of thirst.

Samson had just defeated the Philistines single-handedly and was very thirsty. He cried out to God, complaining about dying of thirst. God opens the ground and provides water for Samson to revive himself.

God has made the body to need certain things in proper amounts and times to be able to continue to function properly. The minimum needs are air, food and water.

It is, at times, common for a person to be in extreme need of food or water. One will become very weak without these things. On his own, one may become desperate in search of these things and sees only hopelessness and death looming before him. This can occur for both believers and non-believers.

The believer may not need water, but there may be some other great need looming over his life that appears to evade him and only showing hopelessness and death.

Instead of giving up hope and expecting to die, as the world does, the believer can put his hope and trust in God and call out to Him. God has ways of opening up rocks and having the needed water or anything else needed poured out. Trust in God will always open up the needed provisions at the right time.

You may have some need to be fulfilled that is causing you to feel desperation or hopelessness. Do not allow yourself to fall into the woes of desperation that the world wallows in but cry out to God with hope.

Know that God can and will meet your need as you trust in Him and obey Him. He has a way of opening up the rock in front of you to meet your needs at the right time. His Holy Spirit will give you the needed strength and revival to keep moving forward.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust God for all of your needs; that you will know the hope you can have in Jesus; that God will open rocks to meet your needs in His time; and that God will revive your strength and spirit by His Holy Spirit in your life.

Judges 14:9 The Beginning Of A Fall

He scooped out the honey with his hands and ate as he went along. When he rejoined his parents, he gave them some, and they too ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s carcass. Judges 14:9

Going through life people will often come across things that appear to be innocent and good, though they are not. Eating certain things can taste and appear to be good, but later will cause sickness and other health problems.

Choices made will often affect choices in the future, leading a person on a certain path.

Samson had killed a lion and later passed by that same lion. In the lion was some honey, which he chose to take, eat and give some to his parents.

God had given the Israelites a command to never touch the carcass of a dead animal. Samson had chosen to not only touch one, but to also eat food from it. Falling to this temptation would lead him into further temptations leading him away from God for a time.

Believers will often fall for a little temptation that appears to be harmless in and of itself. The temptation does not appear to cause any harm to anyone and brings an immediate pleasure or meets an immediate need.

Falling for any temptation makes it easier for one to fall for more temptations. It is a slow path of walking away from God and His commands.

There was nothing wrong with the honey that Samson ate, except that it was forbidden by God. The world will throw temptations at a believer to get him to sin against God. Believers are to resist all temptation, flee all sin and obey all of God’s commands, whether easy or hard.

The more one resists temptations the easier it becomes and the more he can follow God. Every day you will have temptations to do something little that goes against God’s commands.

Do not allow yourself to grab onto a temptation for a short-term, immediate pleasure that will lead you away from God. Stay off the slippery slope to death that little temptations and strays from God will bring.

Run to God and seek to obey all of His commands for you. Jesus will bring life while temptations will only seek to destroy you. Trust that all of God’s commands are for your good to build you and not destroy you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to temptations that come your way; that God will give you strength to resist any temptations; and that you will obey God’s commands that bring you life.
