Job 15:31 What Do You Trust In?

Hands raised to heaven

Let him not deceive himself by trusting what is worthless, for he will get nothing in return. Job 15:31

Trusting in something is natural for people. They have to trust in things in order to use them. A person will trust in a chair when he sits down in it that it will not break and will hold him. People trust that other people will drive on their side of the road as they drive down the road. People trust that their boss will give them their paycheck on time.

People put their trust in things every day. How much something is trusted varies from person to person and what they trust is as numerous as the stars in the sky.

In response to Job, Eliphaz states that a person should not be deceived in trusting in something that is worthless. His reasoning is that one will not get anything in return for trusting in it. Although Eliphaz was speaking against Job, thinking Job was being self-righteous and doing wrong, he does speak some truth.

People will trust in things that really do not matter in life. They will trust that their wealth or position will provide for all of their needs. They will trust that their good deeds will cover up what they have done wrong.

This type of thinking can also occur in the church. Some will trust that their going to church will save them. They trust that all their services of work in the church or financial giving will give them good favor with God. Others will trust that because they believed in Jesus many years ago, that they can live as they want in sin and still get into heaven. Many are trusting in the ways of this world to ‘build’ the church.

Trusting like this will cause a person to end up empty in the end. These things are worthless in light of eternity.

Your first focus and trust must be in God. Trust in salvation by the blood of Jesus is the most important thing to trust in.

The things of this world are temporary and cannot really help you or anyone else in eternity. Do not trust in your retirement or job or others for helping you into eternity. Invest into eternity by following God and doing His will on this earth. Everything else will give you nothing in return.

I pray today that you will trust in God; that you will seek God and His ways in all areas of your life; that you will know God’s will for your life; and that you will walk in His ways.
