Revelation 11:17 Give Thanks–He Reigns

saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.” Revelation 11:17

Over time there have been many different people rise in power to reign as leaders over a nation. Some of those leaders were good leaders that the people enjoyed having. Others were tyrants that the majority of people feared.

Although there have been many different leaders, none have lasted forever and none have complete absolute control. Nor have any of them been able to control the entire world at once.

In John’s vision he sees the elders bowing down and worshiping God. As they did this, they were giving thanks because God had taken His great power and began to reign.

Looking around the world, a believer may wonder sometimes if God is really in control. The amount of sin that is rampant and being promoted makes it appear as though God has left the earth and the believers on their own. Evil appears to have the upper hand in all the nations.

God is patient and allowing the world to run its course. There is coming a day when He will end His patience and begin to judge the world. At that time there will come destruction greater than has ever been seen upon the earth. Every person, believer or non-believer will know and see the hand of God working it all.

Until that day, every believer needs to allow God to reign in his own life. Then he can give God thanks that He is reigning in his own life.

As God reigns in the personal life, one will see that He is reigning in the world also. This can give a peace that passes understanding and strength for the days to come.

God has a plan for your life, but He must be given absolute control. He has to be the reigning authority in your life, not your boss, yourself or anyone else. Do not fear the temporary powers that appear to be in control but are not.

When God reigns, you will see Him do great and mighty things in and through you for His kingdom.

As you see God reigning in your life, give Him thanks. Thank Him for knowing what to do and how to do it. Thank Him for the control and power that He has.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to reign in your life; that you will allow God complete control over all that you say, think and do; that you will give God thanks for His reigning power; and that you will see God’s hand at work in your life and this world.

Lamentations 5:19 God Reigns Anyways

Rainbow over field

You, Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. Lamentations 5:19

Leaders come and go throughout the history of every nation upon this earth. Some are great leaders, others are horrible leaders. Some last a long time in leadership, while others are leaders for a very short time.

The reign of power for each leader is different. Some have absolute power over their group of people, while others are given limited powers.

The one common factor of all the leaders that have ever been upon this earth is that none of them have lasted forever. Every one is either removed or dies. Their reign of power comes to an end.

Jeremiah ends his lamentations over the destruction of Israel with claiming that God reigns forever. Even as Israel is in captivity and under destruction Jeremiah recognizes that God does actually reign over all the earth and is in control.

During times that there is a harsh or bad leader, one often begins to wonder when his leadership will come to an end. Some believers sometimes begin to question God’s reign over the world and His choice for allowing a bad leader to get into position.

Everything that occurs upon this earth happens under God’s allowance. God raises up and destroys leaders. In in power and authority, God uses every situation for His purpose in the lives of those who love and follow Him. God uses bad leaders to sometimes crush a group of people, other times to wake His people up and move them around.

Believers must always remember and know that God is the reigning authority over all the earth. No one or anything can do anything without His permission. This is why the believer must put total trust in God and in God alone, allowing Him to reign in his personal life and world.

As you look at the chaos in this world and the troubles that is occurring, you may wonder about God’s sovereign reign upon this earth. You may wonder why things are allowed or not dealt with by God.

Never forget that God’s ways are above your ways and He uses every leader. God is still in absolute control of what looks like utter chaos upon this earth. In times of turmoil and trouble, God is still in control, reigning with full authority from His throne.

Allow God to reign in your own life and give Him praise that He does actually reign with full authority and power.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to reign in your life; that you will not fear leaders on this earth; that you will trust God’s leading in your life and this world; and that you will give God praise for His authority.
