2 Timothy 2:11-12 A Trustworthy Saying

“Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;” 2 Timothy 2:11-12

After telling Timothy to endure suffering and the ministry like a good soldier, Paul now gives some encouraging words. He starts with saying that this is something that can be trusted in.

The first is about dying and living with Jesus. Many believers have gone through water baptism. This is a symbol of dying with Jesus. It is a dying to the old sinful self and only living for Jesus.

Although many go through the water baptism, many do not want to die. They will hold on to their past ways. Yet, if you die to your self, you will live with Jesus. Give up living for your own ways and follow Jesus. Your life will then be eternal and not just temporary.

Next is to endure. Every believer must endure hardship and struggles. Living a life following Jesus will bring about many challenges. It is described as a race that must be run. In order to win, you must keep going, to endure. You must not give up. If you don’t give up, in the end you will reign with Jesus for eternity.

The last one for today’s verses is if you disown Jesus, He will disown you. Disowning is turning away from, rejecting, not wanting a part of Him. Many believers have chosen to turn away from Jesus. Something bad happens in their life and they feel God is not real and walk away. Others continue to claim Jesus, but live a life that is completely against Him. Others refuse to talk to other people about Jesus.

If you choose to disown Him and have nothing to do with Him, He will allow you to make that choice. The consequence of that choice is that He will also disown you. You will no longer live with Him, nor will you ever reign with Him.

Do you want to live and reign with Jesus? Be willing to die to self with Him. Stay strong and true and endure the struggles with Jesus. Never, ever disown Him.

I pray today that you will die to your old self and sin; that you will endure all that God brings you to and through; that you will never disown Jesus in any way; and that Jesus will make Himself more real to you each day.

Revelation 19:6-7 Hallelujah

“Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.” Revelation 19:6-7

The final end is getting closer. The battle over sin and the devil is almost completely over. John hears in heaven an extremely large group of people shouting praises to God.

The purpose of their praise is that they know that God reigns. They tell everyone to rejoice and be glad in that piece of information.

Imagine how loud that must have sounded. Think back to when you have heard a thunder-storm outside that is just over your house. Remember how loud that thunder sounded when it cracked the sky and how it shook the house. That is how loud these people were. Or if you have ever been in the super bowl stadium and one football team wins the game, how loud it is with the cheering of the people.

Just as excited as a person is when their team wins the super bowl, believers in Jesus should be excited about God’s rule and reign on this earth. Are you showing that excitement in your life today? Are you letting the whole world know that God reigns today?

Along with this excitement is that the bride has made herself ready for the marriage. The bride is the church. You, as a believer in Jesus, are a part of that church. You must also make yourself ready.

For a wedding the bride works at being ready for that special moment. She will get her hair down special, have the perfect dress, put on the correct makeup, make sure everyone knows their parts, and make sure the music is correct and everyone is in place. She wants the wedding to be perfect.

As a believer, you must make sure everything is ready also in your life. Are you believing in Jesus with your whole heart? Are you doing all you can to fulfill His command to be a witness? Have you turned away from all sin? Be ready for His return and the big wedding.

I pray that today God will help you to be clothed and ready for Jesus; that you will be filled with the excitement of knowing God reigns; that God will reveal to you how much He really reigns in this life; that you will rejoice and be glad in God; and that you will shout hallelujah so that the whole world will know.

Revelation 5:9-10 Kingdom and Priests

“And they sang a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10

In this part of John’s vision of heaven there is a scroll that is sealed. No one could be found to be worthy to open it, except Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who was slain and is risen.

The reason for being slain was to shed His blood. The purpose for shedding His blood was to purchase individual people from every tribe, language and nation for God. The purpose for this purchase was to make them into a kingdom and to be priests to serve God and reign on the earth.

When God made this earth and placed man on it, He did not do it just to rule over it with an iron fist. God wanted to have a relationship with man and allow man to rule the earth with Him.

Man has chosen to try to rule in his own way. This is where sin had come in and destroyed man. Although man chose the wrong path, it did not change God’s desires for man.

Jesus died on the cross to buy mankind back to be able to do what was originally intended. All believers are now a part of a kingdom that has no boundaries. This kingdom stretches around the world and will last for eternity.

Along with being a part of this kingdom, each person can be a priest. This is the person who stands before God for other people and stands before the people for God. He is the instrument God uses to spread His Word.

Are you allowing God to use you to be one of His priests today? This is not just on Sundays or in church, it is everywhere you go.

Are you letting other people know that they can be a part of His kingdom today? Do not close the doors on other people because they are different. Point everyone to Jesus and what He has done for them. Build His kingdom today.

As you build His kingdom give Him the worship due Him. He is the only one worthy of all praise.

I pray today that God will reveal to you your part in His kingdom; that God will reveal to you how to be His priest; that God will show you how to serve Him; that God will help you reign on this earth over the evil spirits in this world; and that you will build His kingdom.
