Isaiah 50:5 Having Open Ears

Hearing God

The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away. Isaiah 50:5

Everywhere people go there are other people talking. They are talking and some may hear, but many do not really listen. Most of the chatter that they hear is not directly for them, thus it is ignored.

There is also a lot of talk that is directed at them, that is also ignored. This talk can be in direct words, or by other means of communication. Many ignore rules and regulations and do their own thing. They hear what is being said, but refuse to do it.

Isaiah reports that God has opened his ears. In getting his ears opened, he has not chosen to be rebellious or to turn away from God.

God has many things to say to people, however, many do not want to listen to what He is saying, including those in the church. People will often only listen to the parts that is enjoyable and fun, but ignore the rest.

Everyone loves to hear that God loves them, but reject the part to love their enemies. People love to be told that they are forgiven by God, but refuse to forgive someone who did something against them. They are rebellious against God and have turned their backs on His whole word, rather than obey all of it.

God does not give out words flippantly or randomly, but with purpose. That purpose is to build people up and make them into the image of Christ, holy and righteous.

Hearing God is more than just hearing what He has to say, but it is also obeying it. Refusing to turn away or be rebellious about what God has to say. Believers must not treat God’s word as just idle chatter that has nothing to do with them. They need every word of God in their life to guide them correctly.

Each time you read the bible or hear a sermon, God is speaking. He has something to say to you. You need to allow God to open your ears so that you may hear what He has to say to you. Be careful not to tune God out of your life and miss what He has to say.

Then as you hear what He is saying, obey it. Do not allow yourself to be rebellious and do your own thing, but do the work of God. This can be doing things to and for others or changing things in your own life. Live to love and obey God.

I pray today that you will allow God to open your ears; that you will hear what God is saying to you; that you will obey what God is saying; and that you will live for God in every area of your life.

Nehemiah 9:17 God Never Walks Away

Sunset crosses

They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them, Nehemiah 9:17

Rebellious people are very difficult to work with. Most people will work with them for a while, but will often give up on the person. They see a rebellious person as hopeless and of no value.

People choose to be rebellious for many different reasons, but often it is out of selfishness. There is something that they are not getting or is not going their way, so they choose to rebel. They can rebel against just a few people or against many, but there is rebellion.

The Israelites had rebelled against God many times. They would get into trouble, then cry out to God for help. He would help them, then they would rebel again. Over and over, and yet, God would help them each time. God was loving and forgiving. He never walked away.

God and people are still the same to this day. People rebel against God. The majority of the world refuses to even acknowledge Jesus. Those that do, often rebel against His desires.

It is common to see believers refuse to forgive someone, or step back into some sinful lifestyle. They choose to disobey God’s commands for their lives. Yet, God does not give up on them. He still chases after their hearts.

As long as a person is alive and has a breath, God is chasing after them. He does not want to lose any one. He is ready and willing to forgive them and bring them back into His family.

You may have slipped back into some sin. You may be feeling as if God no longer wants you, that you have committed too many sins and God cannot forgive you. This is not true. God still loves you. He may not be happy with what you have done, but He is right there willing to take you back.

Turn from your sins and return to God. He is waiting with open arms. He is compassionate, loving, and forgiving. His love knows no end. Seek His forgiveness and love and He will give them to you.

God has not given up on you, don’t give up on yourself. Return to Him.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love; that you will know God’s forgiveness; that you will know God will never leave you; and that you will know God’s presence in your life.

Ezekiel 2:7 Speak God Words

You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious. Ezekiel 2:7

God was getting ready to send Ezekiel to the Israelites. He calls them a very rebellious people who do not want to listen. Ezekiel is told not to be afraid of the people and what they will do. He is to speak the words of God to the people whether or not they will listen.

The people who Ezekiel was being sent to were the Israelites. These were the people who were supposed to know and love God. They were supposed to be the ones whom God had chosen. Yet, God describes them as being a rebellious people who may not listen to what is being said. These are the believers that God is calling rebellious.

Those in the world who have never accepted Jesus into their life are not the ones being described as rebellious. Those people are just being who they are: sinners who have not been saved, who have never given God a chance.

The rebellious people are those who go to church, claim to believe in Jesus and, yet, live in a sinful lifestyle that goes against God’s word. These are people who purposefully choose to live in ways that do not represent Jesus. When they are told what God’s word says about their actions, thoughts or speech, they will come up with every excuse to justify what happened. They attempt to claim freedom in Christ and that they can live whatever way they desire.

God wants you to be a shining light in this world as a witness of who Jesus is and what God desires. Along with telling those in the world who do not know Him, you must also speak His word to those who claim to know Him. If another believer is living in sin, you have the responsibility to point him back to God.

Some of those people will listen and turn to God, while others will stay rebellious and not listen. You cannot change a person, but it is your responsibility to tell them what God has to say.

Do not be afraid of what the people may think, say or do, keep speaking God’s word into their lives. Do it with love and compassion. Listen to what God wants you to say and say it. And do not be one of the people who are rebellious. Lives are in the balance, will you speak God’s word today?

I pray today that you will know what God wants to say; that God will speak through you to others; that God’s love will show through you; and that others will hear the words of God and turn to Him.

Jeremiah 22:21 Refusal To Listen

I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, ‘I will not listen!’ This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me. Jeremiah 22:21

As the nation of Judah was being overtaken by the Babylonians, God told King Jehoiakim that He had already been warning him. God had warned him of the coming disaster, yet, the king refused to listen. It was pointed out that his not listening was nothing new. He had been doing that since he was a young man.

Parents often warn their children of not doing some action, because it will bring about suffering and pain, or punishment. The purpose of the warnings are to protect the child, not bind them up and take away their freedom. Even though the warnings are done in love, many times a child will refuse to listen and get himself into trouble or be injured.

It is common for adults to look at children and talk about how they are rebellious and refuse to listen, while many are doing the exact same thing. God has set out a way to live life. He did that, not to bind a person up and take away his freedom, but in order that he may live life to the fullest.

When a person chooses to not live according to God’s plan, God will give warnings. Living in sin and against God’s plan, will bring about disaster and punishment. God’s holiness requires that He punish, if nothing is done about it.

Believers are often guilty of this type of living. They go to church and carry a bible, so they feel that there is nothing wrong. They feel secure. Yet, they are living with a sin in their life, refusing to give it up. They refuse to listen to what God is saying through the bible or through the pastor and others. While this is happening, the person often feels as though there is nothing wrong, yet there is.

Take a look at your own life. Ask yourself how well are you really listening to God? When God speaks are you obeying what He is saying? Or are you still going about doing your own thing?

Do not live your life in a way that God would have to say of you, that you have been rebellious since your youth. May God be able to say that you have done well and are faithful.

I pray today that you will hear God’s voice; that you will obey God’s voice; that you will know the warnings of God in your life; and that you will live your life for God.
